Everything was still covered in snow and ice during our visit but we drove around and there are still many places to park and walk. Some walks take you to the top of the reservoir and the 360 degree views are spectacular! Many people are ice fishing because this year the ice was still very thick.

Moving about in hot, hot sulfur smelling water, watching steam billow up and obscure another only four feet away, makes for an errie experience under a night sky. Voices laughing and couple clinging to each other under the stars or lights lightens the mood and relaxes the body and smooths the skin. You will sleep well that night, for sure.

We had a fantastic time at our rented ice house. Though small, the ice house came with a wood stove to keep you warm (which it did!) and the holes already dug for us. It was a lot of fun and such beautiful scenery. We have also been out here in the summer time and it's a great spot to... More

Had the best time of my life here!! Stayed at the Hunt Memorial Cabin inside Chena River Recreational Area. The cabin and outhouse was nice and clean. There was a pair of fireproof gloves to move the firewood with. There was a saw, axe, water bucket, shovel, broom, tons of extra wood, paper towel, toilet paper, matches, and a lighter.... More

Our group of 4 took an afternoon to drive through the Chena River State Recreation Area. We stopped at Slough Lake (mile marker 29) to watch for wildlife at the end of a gravel road. Our favorite stop was at the Red Squirrel Campground (mile 42) where the birch trees reflecting off the lake was absolutely beautiful. We stopped at... More

A state park within a city is not that usual so this was an experience. It is on the Chena River and is a scenic spot if you overlook the amount of beer cans on the trails. A big bar is nearby. One night was enough.

We have taken our RV to Chena River Rec area several times now. Nice place, decent bathrooms. We will be back when they open back up in the Spring!

The rec area is a "great place to get away from it all" without going miles and miles from town. There are organized campgrounds as well as off the path places to set up camp. The Chena River offers good grayling fishing and several of the ponds in the rec area are stocked. There's a rifle range and rest areas... More
