More than just a boat ride! Board the Sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery for one of the most unique Alaskan experiences available! This three-hour cruise will take you into the heart of Alaska and introduce you to a family who has made the rivers of Alaska a way of life for five generations. You will see a bush floatplane takeoff alongside the boat, visit the home and kennels of the late four-time Iditarod winner Susan Butcher and see her champion sled dogs in action. Be immersed into the ancient Athabascan Indian culture when our Alaskan Native Guides take you on a personalized tour of the Chena Indian Village.

On our first full day in Fairbanks, Holland America booked us on the Riverboat Discovery. Overall we had a great time despite the cold, rainy weather. They surprised us with a bush pilot demonstration, landing his float plane and taking off next to us. Then...More

Very well down with some unexpected extras - Piper plane doing water landing and sled dogs. Boat was very clean and tour was very well narrated by Jim. Very professional staff. Well worth it

Great, great tour. This tour runs like a well oiled machine. The best part were all the college students who worked on the boat and land. They were so awesome and knowledgeable and hardworking. They really made the tour special. I would highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed seeing the sled dogs and the houses by the river. However I have to say I feel that this company is trying to pack as many bodies into a boat in order to maximize profit while sacrificing the quality of the experience....More

Went on this as part of our cruise package along with 900 of our closest friends. The boat is huge. The ride down the river is nice, relaxing, and learned a lot about the area history. They serve blueberry donuts and coffee. The boat is...More

We were on Discovery II, which is the smaller boat, and loved it! The trek started with a sea plane taking off and landing right next to the boat as our guide was speaking to the pilot. Very cool! Our guide gave the history of...More

I was frankly expecting a tourist ride up and down the river. It was so much more. We stopped at a Kennel and got a demonstration of how the musher trains the dogs in the summer. We stopped at a historical exhibit that showed how...More

We've been on the Riverboat Discovery in 2013 and again now in 2018 and it's still just as great of an experience - older folks or families with young children - everyone learns something and it's a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend your afternoon....More
