we booked through Airbnb and were very happy with the area. It was safe and beautiful. The street we stayed on was mainly African American but that was part of the experience for us. We were just off Malcolm X Blv and there were some quirky restaurants around. Was twenty mins out of the city by subway and we always... More

A perfect place for walking around and getting a feel for neighbourhood life in New York. Be sure to include the Pratt Institute in you walk. Amazing sculpture outside and, when we were there, a gorgeous display of jewellery made by students.

I love NYC. I grew up near Chicago so the funky, eclectic atmosphere of Brooklyn appeals to me more than Manhatten. We stayed on Decatur street in a renovated brownstone. It was two blocks from the subway, one from the Laundromat and one block from a nice size grocery store. The people in this neighborhood are diverse, interesting and friendly.... More

We had a great Abnb apartment in this district and I could not have loved it more! Brownstones and more brownstones, my gallery of pictures include stoops of every kind. We never felt unsafe, locals were kind with directions and sweet with morning wishes. We had a great cafe which served a smashing latte - Vintage Georges. The owner and her... More

We stayed in Bed-Stuy for a week in a 117 year old brownstone (through another travel website). The area we stayed, also referred to as Stuyvesant Heights, was lovely. The brownstones with their beautiful gardens was just what we wanted for a non-touristy experience. A little out of the way from other Brooklyn attractions, but easily accessible by foot or... More

Beautiful neighborhood rich in history and culture with places like the Akwaaba Mansion on the "Golden block' in Bed-Stuy. If it weren't for the $2.2 million asking price of one of its brownstones I'd move to this district.

I decided to book accommodation in this part of New York after reading much about the character of New York. Bedford-Stuyvesant retains much of what NY was. The pace is slower, it is quieter, full of character and a people watchers delight. Access to the other boroughs is a breeze whether it be by bus or the subway train system.... More

The area is certainly changing from what it used to be. And it looks like it is for the better. Lots of beautiful Brownstones and building. Hopefully it can be taken back.

We stayed in a 1930 Brownstone in Bed-Sty. A nice neighborhood close to all. We walked the streets at all hours.
