About
Nitehawk Cinema is New York’s premier dine-in theater, pairing exemplary first-run and repertory film programming along with tableside food and beverage service. Nitehawk strives to enhance the cinematic experience with a creative framework by providing a specialty menu with fresh, local ingredients inspired by the films we love; archival 35mm projection; and special guest Q&As. Every month, we offer several Signature Series programs each concentrating on a different corner filmdom including new work from New York filmmakers (Local Color), grindhouse oddities (The Deuce) or country bands paired country movies (Country Brunchin’). Our weekend brunch and midnite repertory screenings span a wide range of films, from 35mm rarities to new independent features. Each of our screenings begin with a house-made thirty-minute “pre-show” filled with content inspired by the film.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Love this quirky little theater! Tables are for 2 and waiters are very attentive and quick about serving drinks and food. We had wine, beer and a bowl of Nighthawk popcorn ($9 for a relatively small bowl). I read other reviews that said waiters were in the way, but ours moved so quickly and ducked down low so were never obtrusive. It must be a real workout to be a server there!
The setting felt different and fun - like we had discovered a hidden gem in the middle of Brooklyn. We will definitely be back!

Nitehawk is like an indie, art-house and traditional movie theatre rolled into one. There is a reason why us locals are in love with this place. I have been coming here since it opened up and have seen major films, midnight gore fests and art-house cinema all with a beer in my hand. It is truly a gem.

WHEN TO VISIT: (If you are from out of town)
-If you have downtime to kill during your visit to Brooklyn/NYC
-You need to chill on all the walking
-It's raining and you've already been to The Met or you're allergic to art.

Let's break it down for ya. ;)

-GOOD Food and drinks (adult drinks) while you watch? Yes.
-Art-house films and popular films shown? Yes.
-Comfy seats and easy to see no matter where you sit? Yes.
-No teenagers/children permitted? Hell yes. (Unless of course they are showing a special family film - this usually happens during weekend brunch shows)

The food is rather fantastic. The queso is addictive, the popcorn is perfect and ample, the burger and basically everything I have eaten here is great. You can't go wrong. I have been meaning to try one of their alcoholic dessert options, maybe next time.

You can get a drink while you wait in line, and you can get more drinks while you watch the movie. Honestly, having servers pop in and out of the theater during the movie rarely causes a disturbance. There is stadium seating and rows are wide. I also believe they know the film playing so they time it pretty well as to when is good to come out. Customer service is great.

Average cost for a date night for 2, with movie tickets, dinner and a drink is $60 (depending on what you drink - mostly). Tix are 12.00. Most entrees are 12-14, but they have plenty of snacks to share for less.

INSIDER INFO:

-Show up 30-40 minutes early. There will be a line. You will want to choose the best seat. And you will not want to miss any of the pre-show screenings. (They always show movie clips, YouTube oddities and such that involve the actors, or subject of the film you are about to see. VERY ENTERTAINING!!)
-Back row in theater 1 is best. Just sayin'.
-You also get a deal on drinks in their bar downstairs after the show with your ticket stub.

Going to this cinema was like entering a time machine - the decoration and atmosphere were kept in a very cool and interesting way so it sets the mood from the start. The little wooden tables inside the screening room were very usual and I really enjoyed the experience of having dinner with the movie. It is a bit odd to have the waiters going around during the film though, but they do try not to disturb much so that was good. The popcorn was nice but the drink was a bit small and the food (I chose the suggested dinner for the movie I was watching) was not amazing, definitely on the expensive side and not really hot.
Still worth the visit and the whole presentation with promos and ads from the 80s and 90s were probably my favorite part!

Don't let my emphatic mention of "booze" in the review title sway you, Nitehawk theater is just as great a date spot as it is an afternoon outing with the kiddos. Whether you're looking for a midnight movie and a snack to match, or some Saturday morning cartoons, Nitehawk has you covered. Pro tip: Try to get there in time to check out the shorts before the flick (when they've got 'em) and get a little extra bang for your buck!

Never been to a cinema like this before - really cool atmosphere and you can drink and eat all through the film. Service was really good too!

Love the concept of this place. I've been here a few times with friends. There's a bar on the ground floor and also one on the movie theater level. So you can have drinks while you wait to go in, or you can also order food and drinks during the movie- they serve at seat throughout the show!

I've been to other cinemas that table service (in other cities) and this the best. We live in the neighborhood and go to this place every chance we get. We see absolutely everything worth seeing here - we even see movies we wouldn't bother to see in the cinema just because they are playing here. We sulk on the rare occasions we need to go to another cinema. The food is good (bring back the original nitehawk popcorn!) if a bit expensive, the service is good, and you will be so happy you wont notice that the screens are kinda small.

I love Nitehawk, I live a block away and go regularly. Food is good, drinks are tasty and the service is inconsistent but generally a bit slow. It can take 20 mins to get your order taken once you sit down, 20 more for anything to arrive. Plan on snacking rather than feasting since you're going to be in for a very hungry wait I'd say. All that said I love this place and will forgive it's issues since I know of no other cinemas like this in NYC.

Hubby and I - a couple of movie fans on holiday from England - went to the Nitehawk Cinema for a Sunday brunch showing of a classic from the 80’s. The cinema is proper old school with at seat food and drink service. We loved it!
No glitz. No gloss. No foyer full of screens and giant drinks machines. No reclining seats that buzz and squeak. Just a real proper cinema experience.
P.S they do show current film releases too!

super special place with impeccable programming. Great food and drinks served as you enjoy the film....get there early for the exquisite short films/ montages made specifically for your film, lots of ephemera and great trivia. also features a great program of silent films for which live music is performed by local luminaries. No place like it, enjoy!
