What do you do and where do you run when you're on a houseboat and cockroaches are everywhere? It was a night from hell. Couldn't sleep and couldn't shower because I just felt my skin crawling all night. The nasty critters came out in the evening as we were stopping for the evening. Prior to that, we relaxed as the... Alleppey is a must for visitors to Kochi. Best option is to stay 2 nights(one is not enough) Experience life on the river while enjoying some brief stops at villages along the way,e.g. Champakulam which has a 500 yr old church. Enjoy local cuisine on board your own houseboat and waking up to breakfast with the sound of tweeting early... More

Thoroughly enjoyable trip we took on the Ramada Hotel's Travel Desk offer. It started from the jetty and was a luncheon on the boat. The Menu was sumptuous & enjoyable , the sitting was on the upper deck where the long backwaters trip was thoroughly enjoyable too. The shimmering sunlight on the waves, the water-birds floating & flying, the fruit-laden... More

Alleppey, known as the "Venice of the East" , is situated on Vembanad Lake, the longest lake in India. The Kettuvallam or 'boat with knots' is held together by coir ropes tied in notes. Not a single nail is used! Modified to meet a novel concept of holidaying, these houseboats are comfortably furnished with an open lounge, bathroom, bedrooms and... More

We were traveling as a family group of 12 and had booked their Premium boat. As we boarded we realized there was no running water, the manager just waved it as a little problem and forced us off the Jetty, turns out it took them 2 hour to repair the pump and then the battery died, so we were stuck... Mr. Kunjachan is the founder of the backwater village canoe trips. He showed us the secred, hidden backwaters, without tourists. He is a very friendly man. We went to his home for launch. This trip was so authentic, far away from the crowd.
