I grew up near the Dolores River near Rico, and have always wanted to return. If you are ever in the area I would recommend the drive from at least Dolores to Rico!

There is never a bad day spent driving, fishing, loving the Dolores River Canyon but if I had to choose a favorite it would be June - October. Absolutely stunning views.

Among the best blue highway trips anywhere in the Colorado Plateau (NM, UT, AZ, CO). Drive CO141 from Naturita to Whitewater or vice versa.

Having lived in Colorado for over 30 years and traveling throughout the state, we leveraged a trip to Mesa Verde National Park into a drive from Cortez up to Telluride during the Fall. Though we had been in this part of the state before, we had never been along the Dolores River during autumn. We were stunned. The colors just... More

We spent a large part of our day driving thru and sightseeing this wonderful area of Colorado, a lot of terrific photo opportunities are present during the drive.

This canyon is beautiful and worth the drive up the canyon. Road work though part of the way up the canyon. Sept 2016

Don't miss including Colorado Route 145 between Dolores and Telluride if you are traveling in southwestern Colorado. The old mining town of Rico and Lizard Head Pass are highlights. Great pavement and plenty of curves attract the motorcyclists.

The Dolores River Canyon is a beautiful relaxing drive and part of the San Juan loop drive. It is beautiful in every season. Side forest service roads are fun if you have the time. Dolores has a couple restaurants, but no much to eat otherwise on this canyon drivve.
