We go to the Henry Vilas Zoo a couple times a year. We love it because it is smaller scale which is nice for a quicker family outing that we can fit in just a few hours. After we like to go downtown Madison for a bite to eat or even stop at the Children's Museum. For a donation only... More

Just took my 2 year old grandson to Vilas Zoo yesterday and was again amazed at what a jewel we have in the Vilas Zoo. We rode the carousel, for $1.50 and rode the train for $1.50 which was amazing. We saw the tiger, polar bears, grizzly bears, and the giraffe was eating grass, what a trip. It only took... More

We go to the zoo several times a year with our grandchildren, now 7,9 and 11. The polar bear exhibit is state of the art. The new inside restaurant adds another option for lunch when the weather is bad although we like the picnic areas on a nice day. We participate in the zoo run and the summer camps have... More

Henry Vilas Zoo has expanded and really cleaned up the grounds. The bear exhibit particularly has been elevated to a more intimate and dare I say humane experience. I've always enjoyed the primate exhibit. There are both indoor and outdoor exhibits. There are some features that cost a few dollars and donations are always accepted and welcomed. A great experience... More

Henry Villas Zoo is a terrific free city zoo. The animal enclosures are slowly being updated so that you sense that the animals are being well cared for. This is a zoo where you can see both a red panda and a polar bear. If you like to visit zoos, this is a special one and great for families.

Animals seemed happy, grounds were clean and my son got face to face with a polar bear for zero dollars. I'd come here everyday if I could, after all the exhibits we walked the park lived it. One tip park closes at 6 but many exhibits close at 4 so get there early or just go again cause again I... More

Very nice free zoo. It is not the biggest or nicest zoo but was an enjoyable trip for us and our 2-year-old. The only disappointment was that the playground area and red barn were closed when we were there. Our son would have really enjoyed those things. Otherwise, we saw lots of animals (our favorite was the otter) and had... More

The Henry Vilas Zoo is small, but admission is free! The primate house is very well done and next to the lion. There are giraffes and a rhino. The polar bears are particularly playful. These are the highlights that stick out in my mind, but there are a number of other animals on display. There are food options within the... More

Have visited the Madison Henry Vilas Zoo numerous times for the past 25+ years with my children and now my grandchildren. There is so much to see and a fun train ride as well as a nice park....bring a lunch and stay all day.
