We toured the museum on a Friday and spent about 2 hours browsing all three floors of exhibits. They have a lot of placards describing early Wisconsin history through native americans and the social and political history of the state (including a good dose of...More

I first went here 7 years ago, and I remember enjoying it, but I didn’t remember anything else. I’m glad I got to return! Even though the museum is fairly small, there is a lot to see. The exhibits are very informational and well put...More

Unless you are on top of parking in Madison you will have to go to the Lake Street ramp. If you have trouble walking getting there is a chore. It is worth a visit, or has been for me when I pop in.

The Wisconsin Historical Museum is a place that's actually smaller than it looks from the outside although it does cram in 4 floors a lot of information that if you take the time to go through make this free museum in Madison worthwhile. Also the...More

Once you pay to get in - and it's a suggested donation of $5, not expensive - it's well worth taking the free guided tour. We lucked in with our guide and got an hour of detailed, thoughtful commentary on the museum's collection. It was...More
