If you are in Madison for any length of time, you really need to tour the Capitol. Well worth the time. Best to visit the tourist desk on the main floor rotunda area for details of tours.

The state Capitol is a frequent landmark for us to visit. My 3 and 4 year old live it because it is wide open and awe inspiring. A visit to our representative gets us a coloring book and once in awhile we can jump in on a tour for a brief history of the Supreme Court or the assembly. The... More

A beautiful capitol building centered in a great location in the middle of Madison. Visit during the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings for a great time.

We wandered into the capital this summer and happened to be there when a tour started. I highly recommend taking the free tour, the tour guides share some interesting tidbits of the capital, Wisconsin history, and the sights at the top are fantastic!

Architecture at it's finest, guided tours available to get the full monty. Native stone throughout and lots of history. The only drawback is knowing whether there is political resistance of some kind going on in the rotunda or outside. Madison is a very liberal city, known for its activism. Be sure to visit during the famous Madison Farmer's Market.

I have lived in Madison and taken the free tour of the Capitol a number of times. I never cease to be amazed at this beautiful building. It truly is a wonderful example of impressive architecture from its dome with the gilded statue on top to its intricate mosaics and different marble from around the world. The docents are well-informed... More

Stopped by for the free tour and the guide apologized that we wouldn't get to see inside several of the rooms because they were swearing in the newly elected members that day, so we could only peek in. I didn't mind at all not being able to go in, but rather thought it was great to be able to see... More
