This is how life should be: an entire street lined with stores and restaurants. The only problem is picking which restaurant because opportunity cost will always leave you feeling like you missed out. The solution is to come back another day and eat at a new place each time you visit. To hit all the spots to eat you'll need... More

The entire state street is an eclectic shopping venture with a little bit of everything. Usually a lot of street performers and very broad spectrum of people come there. Some areas are getting a little divey looking, but generally safe during the day.

Everyone loves State St! With tons of shops, restaurants and sights to see, State St is the hub of Madison. It also has a beautiful view of the capitol.

We walked up and down State Street on Sunday morning. A lot of the places didn't open until noon. I was surprised at the number of chain places (Wendy's, Qdoba, Chipotle, Cold Stone) in just a few blocks. I'd check this street out again on a Friday or Saturday night in the summer. It was hard to interact with on... More

State Street has lots of cool shops and restaurants. Everything from coffee shops to bookstores to second hand shops. It's nice that only cabs/buses can drive down the street. I very much enjoyed walking around there!

We love coming to Madison to visit our son, who lives near State Street. We always walk around State Street. It's such an interesting place, with so much to see, including interesting people. There are many great places to eat too.

Love State Street - have spent many days/nights ion this Street shopping, eating and drinking. It seems like several businesses are starting to leave/close (out of business) which is very sad. Love the uniqueness of this little town and all the fun quirky boutique type stores.

Our hotel was less than a half block off of State Street. We parked our car and walked for three days in downtown Madison. We toured the Capitol Square and up and down both sides of the street to and from campus - over a three day period. The corners are particularly interesting as the architecture of the buildings are... More

As a UW grad visiting Madison after many years away, State Street is a must visit. There are t-shirt and gift shops with UW memorabilia, huge used book stores, trendy coffee shops, and a wide variety of ethnic restaurants. The people watching is second to none, but do be careful after dark.
