A very pedestrian friendly area with an excellent selection of unique shops and eateries. I have lived in the area for many years but only became aware of this gem recently when looking for a quality hat. It is the type of shopping my wife and I love to do when we travel on vacation. If in the area it... More

The first time I have been there, I expected much more. I though that would have better restaurants and clothes stores. You can find some of it, but not so spectacular.

My husband and I love downtown Madison. The people, the food, the night life. It's an awesome getaway, even for just 1 day.

My all time favorite, on a hot summer day, was a guy walking on State Street in a long winter coat with a stocking cap on his head, playing a flute, and leading a duck on a string. I had not been drinking, but I can't say that about him. Great shops, taverns, and eateries make State Street a must-stop.... More

It is so nice to visit a city where it is safe to stroll down the street with limited traffic, very little noise and plenty of distractions for your mind, body and stomach. My wife and I shopped, ate and drank our way down the street and had a wonderful evening!

State Street is a street. It is NOT the State Street Mall. A mall indicates to me something a little laid-back. State Street has a wealth of things to see and do, and I recommend checking it out, but it's like checking out boutique shops, cafes and restaurants while the UPS, FedEx, and over 1,000 buses (really! I worked for... More

There are so many restaurants and stores that make this iconic street a fun time for a stroll. You could spend hours going into each shop, grab a bite to eat for every meal, and still enjoy some time for entertainment.

State street is a must for a visit to Madison. Try Saturday in the summer. Start at Bascomb Hill and work your way to the farmer's market on the Capital Square. Or maybe on a Sat. in the fall and start at the Capital Square and work your way to the Badger Game. So much fun.

No trip to Madison is complete without the walk down state street! It is full of shops, restaurants and history - it is also the best people watching in the midwest!

Lots of old town and new town shops here with plenty of places to eat. The Parthenon there has excellent gyros. The ice cream place is great to. Rag stock for old style clothing and record stores are great too.
