Description:

Located on the Mississippi River adjacent to the French Quarter Audubon...

Located on the Mississippi River adjacent to the French Quarter Audubon Aquarium of the Americas immerses you in an underwater world. The colors of a Caribbean reef come alive in our walk-through tunnel, while our penguins and Southern sea otter enchant you with their antics. Touch a sting ray, feed a parakeet, and marvel at our gigantic sharks, tarpon, and rays in the 400,000 gallon Gulf of Mexico Exhibit. Watch for sea turtles throughout the Aquarium-as coordinator of the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program, we prepare many of them for release to the wild.

I've been to many aquariums and each is unique. I love the section of Caribbean. It's exciting to see the same fish I see while snorkeling. I loved the seahorse exhibit too. The huge display of fish where you can sit on a bench is nice. I saw an owl up by the window but the back lighting made it... More

Pretty cool exhibits, fed my first stingray (ps. Even after I washed my hands 3 times they still smelled like fish). I found the aqiarium very tiny tho like we did the whole place in an hour. Not sure if that's normal, but at $20 a person you better make it stretch. Also as per usual this is an aquarium... More

In the River Walk, along the Misissipi River. After running on the River Walk, you can see all attractions of Audubon Aquarium.

What they had was reasonably well-executed. Just not enough room for a full-blown aquarium, and the other major adjacent landmarks were the still-recovering (??) Riverwalk, and the new (and obnoxious) Riverwalk Outlets. Ugh. Fun watching the penguins being fed (a little less narration, please?), the single (big!) sea otter sleeping, and playing with the parakeets upstairs.

This aquarium has a cheaper admission price than most, though it's not got the variety of say, Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. However the exhibits are interesting and broken down by habitat types, so you'll be able to see a great Gulf exhibit with various sea creatures. There's also some fun stuff with their rain forest area, both with a canopy... More

Very nice aquarium. The seahorse area is top-notch. Very kid friendly. The outdoor aviary filled with parakeets was a nice additon.

My 10 year old son and I visit different aquariums in different cities in the US when we travel. This aquarium is by far the best aquarium we have ever visited. We visit it every time we take a trip to New Orleans. There is so much to see and do, you could spend an entire afternoon there. Our favorite... More

We were disappointed in the New Orleans Aquarium. We were there on 11/27/16. We went on a SUNDAY as they advertised being CLOSED on MONDAY (guess what....we walked by on MONDAY and they were opened and there was no lines!). Way too many screaming kids and you could not get close to most of the exhibits. We thought being close... More

Came here with the family. We had tons of fun. Great exhibits and the parakeet interaction area was a lot of fun. They warn you ahead of time but you need to know these birds will be all over you. I had them crawling in my pockets. Landing on my head. All over me. The kids thought it was hilarious.... More

We visited over Thanksgiving 2016 with our three kids ages 22, 20 and 16. They are a fairly tough group to please, but the Aquarium brought all five of us joy. We laughed at the faces we made in the kids area where you can put your head up in an aquarium giving the impression you are in it. We... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
