New Orleans' Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America's truest art forms - Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture.

Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.

Second time and always a fun time

Small intimate club show for an hour with great musical artists. About 70 people max and they take requests for$5. Cover of $15 pp, and a unique experience.

The music is great, but only about 40 minutes per show. You have to wait in line outside, get herded in and stand to watch the show. No food or beverage service. It's great to support this type of place, but it's not going to fill you music needs for an everning.

Music and atmosphere were awesome. The quality of the Jazz was at the highest levels. We enjoyed it very much. A note for the spoiled people like us: Buy the tickets online for first line seating. It is true that the price is more than doubled vs. standing in line and maybe getting in the last moment but for us... More

We went to see the Jazz Masters at 6 pm this past Monday, and it was such a beautiful experience. It's first come first serve for standing room in the back, and you can also reserve a seat for more money. What I'd recommend is getting in line early and snagging one of the floor cushions in front if you... More

Located next to the famous (er...infamous) Pat O'Brien's, Preservation Hall is a throwback to old New Orleans jazz. Plan to arrive early, as a line will form, and it's not the largest place inside (much of it standing-room-only).

Preservation Hall was a surprise - has not seen a coat of paint or renovations in 100 years. Dark, stark, rough benches in a small room with rough flooring. And then the musicians come in and start playing, and like the scene in the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy opens the door and everything turns to color, suddenly the world... More

Don't expect a normal, comfortable music venue, but expect some great music in a sweet atmosphere. We really enjoyed it once for the unique experience, but wouldn't do it a second time.

We went on a Sat night, got into line at 9:30 for the 10pm show, just barely got in. $20 for open seating. Apparently if you get tickets far in advance you can pay extra and get a seat in the front. No bathrooms or drinks, but there are bars nearby to get both done beforehand.

Purchase tickets for seating. You'll be right up front and so glad you did. We had a very special night.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
