Cafe Lafitte's is the oldest gay bar in the United States. They have a upstairs "Balcony Bar" that is open on the weekends and great for entertaining. Also the Balcony Bar is great for private parties.

We scored a balcony table on our second visit to NOLA (which required about 90 minutes of hovering like a vulture during mid-afternoon until someone left). Best staff in NOLA. Bartender was amazing (thanks Brad!), and everyone was super friendly. Bar was also very very clean. Will definitely be back!

Straight couple visiting from midnight till three. Cheesy pop to toe tap to, reasonably priced drinks and funny efficient service. Will go again. Good for getting g away from the chaos at he other end of bourbon but still having a fun night.

Great bar! Love the balcony upstairs; got a table with a great view of the street below. Drinks were overpriced but service was friendly!

Gay bar with a downstairs (drinks/dancing/mingling), more private upstairs (bar/pool table), and fun upstairs patio overlooking Bourbon St. The absolute BEST part of this bar is the nightly "Napkin Dance" which is held on the first floor of the bar. I think it's at 9pm, but basically the bartenders pass out huge stacks of cocktail napkins, and during the chorus... More

My husband and I were in town for our anniversary. My brother suggested we visit this bar and we were not disappointed. Sat upstairs and bartender Brad made our night! He was friendly, conversational, and kept us laughing (and buying drinks)! We couldn't ask for a better bartender. Coming here was a highlight of our trip.

Bartender handed he a handful of napkins as soon as the music love is in the air played everyone went wild and threw the napkins in the air. Amazing scene. People are hugging, kissing, singing, laughing. Best place to belong!!!

I've been here with both gay and straight folks. It's welcoming to anyone. I love it. Friendly bartenders and my favorite balcony view in the city.

A small hetero group of us, in for a conference, were passing by when we heard karaoke. We popped in and had a gas. We were welcomed and treated well. The group was fun. The drinks were standard and priced for the area. We stayed for more than one cocktail and had a wonderful time. Actually, it may have been... More

Well I was a bit turned off when I discovered the bartenders (John Green)don't wash their hands when they used the restroom. I brought this to the manager's (Foster) attention, and he became very aggressive with me, stating "he stands behind his bartenders"! Needless to say I wont ever be back and neither will my friends. Cleanliness is very important... More

Unfortunately, I won't be giving my business anymore 2 Cafe' Lafittes in Exile, since this manager name Foster, wanna put me out and tells me I'm not welcome back there any more, because I made a complaint bout his employer John Green, his 5am-1pm bartender, having sex in the nasty public restroom and not serving regular customer or any customers... Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
