We stayed in the Lower Garden District and walked around. Beautiful historic homes and many great places to eat. The neighborhood is old and so are the sidewalks - pay attention for imperfections.

A continuation of the Garden District. Area is just as charming with beautiful houses, great tree cover and places to stop and eat. The best way to see it close up is to walk around. You can take the streetcar to save time, but you should get off to explore than get back on. A great place to see.

We took the St. Charles streetcar here ($1.25 exact change only) and enjoyed the trip through downtown. Once we reached the garden district the street opened into a stunning wide avenue lined with huge old trees and Spanish moss. We hopped off at 3rd and did a little walking tour (found on this site: http://www.gonola.com/2013/07/23/icons-of-new-orleans-architecture-garden-district-houses.html) through some of the grandest... Beautiful homes. Some are in better shape than others. Stay away from the tour leaving from the bookshop! It was terrible! Stood 45 min in the sun (got a sunburn) to hear in incorrect historical facts and a few offensive religious comments. We paid $20pp and left after 45 min of talking without reaching the first home or even the... More

Our hotel (Prytania Park) was in this area and we loved it. Great variety of places to see, visit and eat. If you like pizza, you definitely need to try the pizza place called Slice. It was really good.

It was worth taking a walk through the area. Some of it looks a little run down but beautiful homes.

A lot of crime but lovely I don't spend a lot of time there but it is a pretty area. Just a little scary for me.
