About
We are anything but your typical swamp tour! Our lead tour guides include a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who has covered wetlands issues for 30 years, a former television producer who wrote for the only series covering erosion, and a former forest ranger and experienced environmental educator. Lost Lands takes customers out on boats or in kayaks to show the beauty of Louisiana's costal landscape. We also educate our customers on the rapid land loss occurring in the region and explain why south Louisiana is ground zero for global warming. You’ll start with an in-depth audio-visual education on the history of this problem and the proposed cures from award-winning experts. Then come with us for a first-hand experience into the beauty and peril of the largest wetlands ecosystems left in the lower 48 states. After taking our tour, you’ll understand why the wetlands are worth fighting for!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having recently joined a tour with Louisiana Lost Lands Environmental Tours, I can confidently say it was an experience to remember. From start to finish, the team demonstrated a genuine passion for conservation and a deep knowledge of the ecosystem.
Our guide, John, was exceptional. His enthusiasm and expertise made the tour both educational and entertaining. Despite the unpredictable weather, John ensured we had a fantastic time, pointing out various wildlife species and sharing fascinating insights about the wetlands' importance and challenges.
John went above and beyond to provide us with memorable photos and ensure we didn't miss out on capturing the beauty of the swamp.
I highly recommend their tours.

Wow! Our day with Lost Lands Tours was absolutely amazing. It was a wonderful, enjoyable, and educational experience for all of us. A very special experience for our kids (ages 12 and 8).

I would recommend Lost Lands to everyone visiting NOLA!

This was a must do activity if you have a few hours to spare in New Orleans. The passion of the leaders and experience make this much more than just a "swamp tour." See what others just fly over or drive by. An unforgetable experience!

This was the highlight of our family trip to New Orleans, hands down. A truly special experience away from the hustle of the crowds and tourism machine of NOLA. Kayaking through the cypress forests with a naturalist as a guide was a fascinating way to learn about the ecology of this special place. We saw so much wildlife, including dozens of alligators, and I learned a ton about the biology and ecosystem of the wetlands. I especially appreciated the information session beforehand, very sobering reality of the human toll on the delicate Louisiana wetlands that grounded us in what’s at stake. If you appreciate slow travel and guides with expertise and love of place, this is the one for you. I hope to come back someday and do it again!

The trip was so fun. Learned so much in the initial presentation about climate change's effect on Louisiana as well as about the flora and fauna on the kayak tour. John and Bob were so nice and knowledgable. The views were beautiful!

This was a fabulous tour. The day started with an interesting and informative talk about the wetlands and the environmental challenges facing the area. We then set out in the kayaks along the bayou and through the swamp. It was really beautiful and peaceful and we saw lots of wildlife

I found this tour from a Reddit recommendation, and I'm so glad I chose it over other kayak outfits. This tour is for people interested in ecology, environmentalism, conservation, and ethical tourism, who want to spend a whole day getting to know Louisiana's wetlands. Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Bob's presentation was eye opening to the impact people have on the land and highlighted the importance of preservation. He continued the education on the water surrounded by the beautiful landscape. The small group size allowed us to paddle quietly and not disturb the wildlife; longer time spent on the water gave us more time to spot and hear the wildlife. This tour is for the people who care about the quality of their experience and want to learn from lifelong locals. I cannot recommend Louisiana Lost Lands enough.

This was an incredibly beautiful, and peaceful tour. Clyde, my tour guide, was knowledgeable, honest, and fun. And he gave me plenty of time to stop for hydration, photos, and questions.

I would highly recommend this tour, especially if you are interested in learning about wetlands, low country, and where New Orleans stands in it all.

What an amazing way to spend a day! We started the day learning about the Louisiana coastal areas, history and current situation. I learned so much from our guide, John. His passion for the beauty and the critical importance of the bayous was inspiring. The bayous are teeming with life. Great day! Totally recommend.

One of the most exquisite, peaceful experiences of my life. If I could go on that kayaking trip everyday for the rest of my life, I wouldn’t tire of it. Thank you beyond words.
