Neighbourhood: Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.

A beautiful bookstore filled with interesting books. The store is in a lively historic building which housed a skating rink in the 1800s. We bought several books for our grandson and enjoyed browsing the entire store. Afterwards we went downstairs and had coffee and pastry at Chicory House. Made for a nice morning!

The Garden District was always on the bucket list but so was this shop and it didn’t disappoint. Even my husband- who is a music nut - loved it and bought a ‘signed by the author’ book. A great place

Its been a while since I've been here, but I've ordered books from them on line. Friendly staff very helpful. A lot of first edition books of local writers. When I was there they had quite a few signed first editions of almost all of Anne Rice's novels. I've always found some treasure there. Its also right across the street from the Lafayette Cememtery which seems to be one of the safer cemeteries to visit during the late afternoon. Garden District is a gorgeous area and if you love New Orleans hop on a trolley car and get your butt over there. You can't say you've been to NOLA without seeing the Garden!

Perhaps it was our mistake for assuming this would be something beyond your normal bookshop experience. We expected to find a uniquely New Orleans kind of collection or atmosphere, but there is little difference between this bookshop and any other locally owned bookshop you might come across. Nothing to complain about, but not worth going out of your way to visit.

On my first trip to New Orleans, I stumbled upon this shop after touring Lafayette Cemetery (across the street) -- and I haven't stopped thinking about it since! It has an excellent selection and sells many signed books that will soon become collector's items. I've picked up so many good items here, that I genuinely miss it when I'm back home in Canada.
This time around I was able to grab some great local interest research books as well as a signed copy of Sally Field's autobiography and a signed copy of Ellie Kemper's memoir (which is super fun by the way!).
They also had super cute gator-reading-books wrapping paper and would wrap your books free of charge for Christmas.
I have to agree that while some staff members are friendly, others are somewhat standoffish. I've worked in customer service a lot, so I understand that it's exhausting, but a smile now and then would be very much appreciated. :)

The ladies working were fairly chatty to each other as we went in so they largely talked the entire time we were there and left us alone. The bookstore itself is fairly impressive. A lot stocked into a small space. A really nice sampling of local writers and artists. I bought two books and asked to ship them home and was a little taken back when the lady working the register suggested she bag them up for me. It was pouring rain and the streets were flooded and I was wet and on foot. Sometimes it would be nice if the staff would pay closer attention to the customer. But books arrived quickly!

This small independent bookshop, close to the Lafayette Cemetery, has a nice collection of New Orleans books and a very nice atmosphere. It is also a must-go for any serious Anne Rice fans as it is related to her history in the city. There you will also find signed copies of Anne Rice's works as well as of other authors.

Great little bookstore in the Garden District. Stop in after you stroll and view the gorgeous houses and the historic cemetery. Lots of good books to choose from and a whole section is devoted to books signed by the authors - some at no extra cost. I could have spent hours in there if I had had the time. There is a coffee shop and other jewelry and craft stores in the same center. Enjoy!
