Lake front Park

Lakefront Drive along Lake Ponchatrain is very scenic and offers multiple parks for recreation. Definitely worth visiting while all you are in New Orleans.

After 27 years, I revisited New Orleans. We spent two hours driving through Lake Pontchartrain to the Fontainebleau State Park and back. I wish it was a cloudy day like years ago, then we would get the feeling of floating in the clouds. The lake was very quiet and peaceful. Pelicans were flying by. At the Fontainebleau State Park, we... More

It's big. Seems like you're viewing the Gulf. The bridge disappears in it. Viewed the pumping stations and levies that failed during Katrina.

We cross this two lane bridge to visit relatives. It is free to cross when you leave the city but you have to pay $3.00 to return back to New Orleans. The bridge has a speed limit of 65mph during the day and a speed limit of 55 at night. The bridge has its own police force and it is... More

Took a drive across Lake Pontchartrain. It was very beautiful and amazing. Didn't realize it was so large. Lots of great places to eat on the other side.

Leaving New Orleans, my wife and I decided to take the 24 mile bridge over Lake Pontchartrain. I am glad I am not phobic of water as once you are committed to the drive, you are committed. It is a straight shot. It is still a sight to behold and I would do it again without reservation. I would love... More

This is the longest overwater bridge in the world. It is very safe, straight - and boring. $3.00 for the round trip. The older span( north to south ) is a little bumpy. Speed limit is 65 - but the police force who work the bridge seem to overlook anything under 75.avoid if possible if it is foggy.

Rode over lake pontchartrain in June 2011 for 2 tours. We also passed over the lake to head to Metairie for some shopping. Very large lake near New Orleans. Also, there is an abondoned 6 flags theme park that never quite made it to opening because hurricane Katrina hit and prevented that. You can see the roller coaster tracks from... More

Staying in Lakeview

Neighbourhood Profile
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
