Had to try the beignets.

Stopped at Lorretta's Authentic Pralines and had some amazing beignets. It was our first, but not our last time eating these delicious pastries.

Live music up and down the street. Just choose a spot, sit down and enjoy the talents of NOLA musicians. A lot more fun (and a lot less vomit) than Bourbon Street.

Went to a 10:00 show. Nice, intimate spot for jazz. Paid $30 for a ticket. Wandered in at 9:30 and timed it perfectly. Not a bad seat in the venue. Cool place.

It's another cute street with some trendy shops, restaurants and music venues. Unless you're going for the music, it's not really worth the 20min walk from the French Quarter.

This is where the music scene has moved and there are plenty of great spots. Our favourite was DBA. Felt a little uncomfortable walking through the east side of the quarter but no incident. Might want to uber it there and back.

This area is great. Lost of small bars with live music. There was a band playing in the street. There were a couple of street markets as well, selling art and jewelry etc. Great place to walk through and bar hop at night

We loved hanging out on Frenchman! It's just a short walk from the French Quarter with awesome jazz bars, and Dat Dog! Best hot dogs ever, especially after drinking and listening to jazz :) You could easily spend all day in the French Quarter then venture over to Frenchman at night. There's plenty of people so you'll always feel safe,... More

Hubby and I have spent this past week on Frenchmen street. It does indeed come alive at night. We sat on our balcony and people watched while listening to the jazzy bands. It's been a strange experience, which is what we wanted. Had to leave our quiet, safe life at home. Might be back but we'll try a different flare... More

The best street for music clubs in NOLA -especially The Spotted Cat, Snug Harbor, and Maison - though the first is my favorite (especially Wednesday evening when there is a really really good jazz band that plays right around 6:00 or so).

Frenchmen St in my mind is the real New Orleans. Forget about the Bourbon St tourist trap. This is the real deal. Frenchmen Street is a rather small area full of great music venues and down-to-earth restaurants and bars. It is a must-go while you are in New Orleans. The Frenchmen Art Market (opens at night) is also a must... More

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
