Neighbourhood: French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just an average park on Decatur Street near to the French Market. Two interesting-looking water features but, unfortunately, neither of these was working on the day I was there. Plenty of benches for sitting in the sun (or lying and having a sleep). OK in the daytime but I wouldn't venture there after dark.

You walk through this park on your way to the French market after you get your coffee and beignets. There seems to always be some live free music and you can stroll around looking through shops or just sit on a bench and listen. It's small but right down in the main area where all the tourists go so there's always something to watch. A good place to relax.

Full of vagrants and drug addicts and the place is filthy. Pity as nice water feature and trees and has potential. Feels dangerous.

Nice park to take a rest after visiting the French market. I didn’t experience anyone begging for money or homeless when I was there.

I was shocked to see the number of street people in New Orleans lying and hanging around on sidewalks, sleeping on benches in park areas, drinking in city squares and even curled up in shop doorways.. it is very evident everywhere you go!
Clearly this is a big problem in the city with people being homelessness, drinking problems and mental illness.
Latrobe park is no exception during the day you cannot find a place to sit on benches and enjoy the scenery. A great shame when you think that this lovely garden park has a lot of history behind it, built in 1976 on the site of the original 1820 pump station by architect Benjamin Latrobe and beats his namesake. I would on go there for a quick sightseeing trip and use your time at the nearby Gazebo Restaurant to have their famous ice cream daiquiri, cafe du monde for delicious beignets and the French market for a bit of shopping and food fare.

Latrobe Park is a beautiful little green space that would receive a 5 rating if the city would do something about the homeless hanging out, lying on benches etc.. They did not bother us as we admired this gem, but it took away from the experience. Built on the site of the city's original pumping station,it was named after famed architect Benjamin Latrobe, who built the original station in 1820.This picturesque park of less than a 1/2 acre has a lovely sculpture at the southern entrance, benches, many large shade trees and a small square low fountain at the northern entrance representing the original pumping station. The park was built in 1976, but has a regalness to it and looks like it could have been here for 150 years. It is located next to the old French Market.

This is a very small park located close to the farmers market. Big thing was the homeless people sleeping and hanging around the park. Okay during the day would not try at night.

This is a beautiful little park, and an ideal place for a break from the hectic aspects of the French Quarter. However, there are times when this park is overrun by people begging for money. If you are looking for an opportunity to help people less fortunate this is a fine place to find them. If you are looking for a place to sit and relax without being approached/solicited, then this may not be the place for you. I do not look down upon these folks at all. I am simply writing this to let you know what you will encounter at this park on any given day.

I didn't think I'd get a repeat of one of the best times I've had in New Orleans but it happened, so I'm writing about it again. This park is adjacent to the Gazebo which offers live Jazz music until; usually 6PM. So you can enjoy the park, sit in the shade and listen to some good vibes. Then grab a table at the Gazebo where there is a wait staff and enjoy some of the best Red Beans and Rice you'll devour.
