You can depend on a quality production at this small "Summer Stock" style theater

Keep in mind that if you don't already have a CusterState Park pass on your auto you will have to buy one. They do have a short term passes for 20 $ or $30 for annual pass. If you are real organized you can get a day pass online for $ 6 but you have to do it online; these passes are not available at the park.

Mama Mia!
Aug 2019 • Family
I have seen Mama Mia as a west end production in London and this production at the Black Hills was every bit as much fun as London. What a magical little theatre in a gorgeous location just off the Needles Scenic Highway! We always make an effort when travelling to support local theatre productions and we were so glad to see Mama Mia here - what a great cast. My 2 ‘tweenie’ daughters loved the performance too. Please support this theatre if you are in the area - you won’t be disappointed.

Best Kept Dakota Secret!

We are headed BACK to BHP this week (July 2019)! BHP is an intimate, rustic professional playhouse nestled in the Black Hills. Watch for herds of bison as you enter the state park for a bonus to your trip. We were amazed at the numbers this playhouse draws to this back road location! Highly recommend. Most notable for me was the perfect sound-I could hear and understand every word. (We have a 16 hr drive.) Disclosure: it was our daughter’s first employment at the BHP which motivated our initial trip, but I wouldn’t recommend it if it wasn’t top-quality. Her work experience there was nothing but exceptional and she was thrilled to be rehired for this season. Looking forward to opening of Mamma Mia!

NOT KID FRIENDLY
Jun 2019 • Family
We attended the "children's night" of Sherwood and were very disappointed. We had specifically called when booking our ticket and told them that we were very conservative and wanted to know if there was anything in the play that we should know about before bringing our children. We were assured, by the salesperson, who had just seen the show, that there was nothing they could even think of that would be of note. IT IS NOT KID FRIENDLY. In fact there wasn't much in the play at all that was good. It was mostly paying too much money to have to cover our children's eyes. The play has swearing, sexual foreplay, sexual jokes, a "death" character, and mostly consisted of the actors describing in detail how to harm, impale, and kill others. DON'T GO. After calling the playhouse TWICE before someone calling us back I was told there was nothing they would do. We have attended plays every year at the Black Hills Playhouse and will not be back again.

Professional theater located in an unbelievably beautiful location! A wonderfully talented seasonal troupe of actors, comfortable seating... terrific spots for picnics! This is a Black Hills must do. Located in stunning Custer State Park.

Tonight was Robin Hood-I wasn’t sure in th beginning, but it was so good-tons of crazy unexpected humor! The actors were exceptional. We go to as many of the plays as possible even tho it is quite the drive to/from spearfish

Well worth the Custer Park pass

We wait all year for the Playhouse season. Living in Rapid City, we’ve been season ticket holders since 1993 when we moved back to the area. We’ve never been disappointed. The talent this Company of players brings to their performances is incredible, as is the technical support staff. Everyone is friendly and courteous, presenting an “I love this job!” attitude. And we love them right back.

Stopped by to see the musical Oklahoma and the musical was one of the best I have ever seen. The performers were very talented and never missed a step. Would definitely recommend it as a positive experience.

What a find.....fabulous theatre, nestled in a gorgeous Black Hills location. We saw Game's Afoot. It had me engaged from beginning to end. Acting was top rate. Didn't stop laughing. It was a wonderful and special night. This theatre and troupe are not to miss.

Enjoyable time
Aug 2018 • Couples
We’d never been here before but out friends had. The theater is small, but everyone from the young men directing parking to the concession workers, and box office personnel were very friendly. Different plays are offered during the summer. We were at opening night of “The Games Afoot”. Very good cast and we had a nice time.
