Beautiful spot, have a look in the back, where the Madonna is standing in a separate cavern, nice vibes.

A beautiful, most enjoyable church in a lovely city. If you are in the area, stop in here. Relax into the peacefulness. (If there's a need, a very clean public WC is nearby.)

The baroque period was noted for an emphasis on form and symmetry and this basilica is an excellent example of such. It is certainly a very large church for a relatively small town in the Austrian lake district of Salzkammergut. Being used for the wedding scene in the factually highly inaccurate but nevertheless enjoyable 'Sound of Music' film has brought... More

"The hills are alive with the sound of music With songs they have sung for a thousand years The hills fill my heart with the sound of music My heart wants to sing every song it hears!" This is yet another the beautiful old church in Europe, but the one where Maria and Captain Von Trapp get married...yay! And how... More

On a recent visit to the area, we visited Hallstatt in the morning and came to the Basilica for mid morning coffee. It was a Sunday yet the basilica was empty and a small smattering of Chinese tourists. Beautiful building but really not unique except for its movie star pedigree and the local Cafes trade off that notoriety by charging... More

Ok Sound of Music fans you will love this little town especially Basilica St.Michael as this is where Captain Von Trapp married Maria. The Basilica is beautiful and a work of art in itself. My husband and I were the sole people in there at the time and we walked down the isle (whilst thinking how cruel it was that... More

Most will visit this church because of the "Sound of Music" wedding scene filmed here but even without that, it would still be an amazing old church to visit. The decor inside is simply amazing! The contrast of the black displays with the gold trim is very different and worth the effort just by itself. Highly recommended.
