Out of the whole Zillertal area Mayrhofen and more specifically Ahorn and Penken are our favorite ski slopes. ALWAYS check the ski conditions BEFORE taking off on bergfex.com website. It's not at all pleasant to ski in high wind conditions. During high season and rush hour it can take even an hour to reach Mayrhofen after turning off off A12... More

9 bombardina. Another great advantage of Mayrhofen are the train and bus services so its easy to travel to different ski slopes such as Kaltenbach (approx 30 mins on the train) which offers amazing skiing ( our favourite). Or a bus to the glacier, offering long runs and stunning views. Also highly recommended is the Arena also great slopes although... More

Its been many years since I was in Mayrhofen and I must admit the lift system is extremely efficient. The area lift pass covers the whole of the Zillertal valley and the uplift capacity is amazing. there are four differnet lkifts up to the Penken , each different but equally efficient and the 6 and 8 person chairlifts everywhere are... This is a great ski area, particularly for intermediates and beyond. The mountain restaurants and facilities are the best I've come across, and the lifts are all modern state-of-the-art, easy to use with pretty small queues all of the time - even at peak periods. The landscape is amazing and the terrain is varied, with a lot of runs to... More

After four days of skiing there: Best place to start - Horbergbahn. Large choice of routes. Blue roots are little bit crowded. The best slope - red 10.

If your an avid skier or snowboarder this should definitely be on your list when planning your next trip. Grab a zatiller super pass this gives you access to the entire resort no holds barred, or if your just looking for a quick break just get the penkenbahn this area has runs for every level of skier and will more... Not that blown away by this area. It's 30 years since I skied in Austria and thankfully the lift queues and drag lifts are largely gone. The Penkenbahn area is all modern but the runs are relatively short and getting to the linked areas (Finkenberg and Rastkogel) proved quite difficult on a snowboard as the maps don't make it clear... Worth a visit for a drink before heading back down the mountain. This place is always ram packed however downstairs bar is a hellhole with everyone smoking indoors leaving your skiing gear smelling disgusting.

I've snowboarded in many Austrian resorts and I found Mayrhofen fantastic, plenty of challenging runs great huts to stop of for a beer and a shot. The vans park is set up for all levels good bad and the ugly. The village it self can be party central or you can also chill. I'm hooked and will be returning very... More

Just go.......go now or later.......either way, you should go. I'd be amazed if you could hit every run on 1 week.
