About
The Museum of Roses was founded in 1984 with the help of the city's Museum of History. The exposition includes original photographs, documents and interesting items related to the rose production - the oldest Bulgarian industry. There is a display of tools used to cultivate the rose gardens, along with vessels used to store and transport rose oil. In the yard one can find authentic installations for producing rose oil from both the 19th and the 20th century.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a rather small museum presenting the history of rose oil production from antiquity through the modern says with a great emphasis on the oil production in the region in the 19th century and pre-ww1 20th century. The museum also offers a shop with quality rose-oil products.

It was very quiet when we visited. The building has a nice modern entrance with the rose oil making history and exhibits in a circle around a garden of roses. The first exhibit I noted was a book by David Austin, a recently deceased English rose grower. The explanations were in English and easy to follow. The gardens had some very attractive roses of all types with some recognizable old varieties and a few newer ones. There was a disabled access but at certain points I would question whether it was wide enough for a wheelchair.

The museum isn't very big but very informative. I enjoyed the set up with the walk through history, supported by old photographs and tools and the short video about the annual rose festival. Even though it was late in the year I admired the different types of roses in the inner court yard. It's well worth a visit.

This museum was built as a circle so you start and finish at the same spot, receiving a good explanation of the history of rose oil, the city and the production method.

As a stand alone we think this small museum is unique and essential to any visit to Kazanlak or even Bulgaria to learn about the centuries old industry of rose oil that Bulgaria exports and accounts for 60% of the world’s rose oil supply for cosmetics. It shows how it started and the whole process of how to make rose oil.

Fortunately we visited on the eve of 31 May the day of the opening ceremony of the rose festival in Kazanlak and the whole Valley pf rose. Hence we witnessed the fashion shows of the beautiful models in off course rose dress. Worth a visit.

The park surrounding the museum with its many roses is also great to see. The museum itself is nice but not terribly well organized. The small gift shop that sold products was closed for inventory (the workers were just milling around) - just like in the communist days where the customer is always wrong.

The "Rose Museum" exposition is located in the newly built building in Rosarium Park, in the central part of the town of Kazanlak. The main purpose of the museum is to familiarize people who want to visit with the history of the cultivation of oil-bearing rose and rose-growing of the Bulgarian lands.

Museum offers many interesting information, but has so much potential, which is not used.
There are some small equipment on display and a lot of written information.
I hoped to see more presentation like a bucket or trailer of roses in comparisment with how much rose oil this produces; how much rose oil is how much money; how much you need for a soap ect. Presentation on how one measures real rose oil from a fake, stuff like that. Not only hard written facts.
But on a plus side, you can buy really cheap rose products in the museum. We bought bunch. Rose elixir, rose jams, rose vodka, soaps, shampoos and many more.
Just beware, on the last day of the month you can not pay with card. So bring cash.
