On Memorial Day, We came here to celebrate those that have fallen to commemorate the holiday in the best way possible, those that have given all for our freedom. Nice service and celebration, we should all come out on this national holiday, meant to celebrate, and reflect.

This is simply what it says it is, although it's location often serves as a reminder to turn to get to a good beach. This is not like unusual graveyards in ancient locations or with above ground crypts. This is not. Tourist attraction, so don't go here unless you are paying respects or honoring someone's grave.

With many volunteers this cemetery has turned from lava rock and weeds to a very nice small cemetery with many local trees and scrubs.

Upon his death last year my father, a retired veteran, donated his remains to our local medical school. We have been searching for the perfect place for his cremains we expect to receive soon. We found it, quite accidentally, at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery while driving on the big island. The grounds are beautiful, and we especially like that... More

I believe there are signs located on the gates as to the times they are open. I have always found it open at the times they specified including Memorial day in which they did a complete honor presentation. I believe the times are a few hours in the morning only. In either case, we have always found it open during... More

I respect and want to show my appreciation to American's veterans. But this burial ground is always closed. I have tried to go there on several occasions, including Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and it is always closed.I've always ended up throwing the bouquets that I brought into the ocean and saying a prayer for our fallen soldiers.

Excellent location for our deceased veterans. There is a beautiful view that over looks the pacific ocean. It is just a short distance north of Kona. It is the only Veteran's cemetery that has been given the status of a shrine. Being a veteran myself, It was interesting to view each and every grave and see its member. There were... More
