Very steep trail, particularly in the first 0.5 mile in the rainforest. It got flatter for a while during the bench trail, then it is all steep again. Hiking poles would make the hike a lot easier. The upper trail can be a little bit...More

On July 4th, the sleepy town of Seward comes alive for the annual Mt. Marathon race. There are participants from all over Alaska and the lower 48. It’s like a party atmosphere with vendors selling food and other items, and the local churches and organizations...More

After hearing about the famous race, I was looking forward to hike this mountain. It's only about 4 miles up and back but it's really steep and challenging. The trail goes straight up with out any switchbacks. Make sure you are of moderate physical shape...More

Mt. Marathon is historic in Seward! Go during Fourth of July to watch the Mt. Marathon race. It's so exciting and intense! The kids race is even crazy! Hike up the Jeep Trail - it starts out quite steep and then evens out. Cut over...More

The view from the top of this mountain is amazing. I haven't done the hike myself. Have to be incredibly fit! Come on the 4th of July for the races up and back! It's fun just to watch!

We started at the Jeep Trail head. It is very steep. There is a nice waterfall not far into the trail. We made it through very steep parts, and then we ran into an icefield so couldn't continue to the top. We were very disappointed....More
