There are great views from Upper Dewey Lake. And one can keep hiking up from there. The hike is fairly steep and you are going from sea level to about 3,000 feet in elevation. For me, it was very rewarding. Near the lake, there is a nice field, two cabins, a bridge over the creek and a trail to the Devil's Punch Bowl. The creek parralels the trail for most of the hike and offers some great sounds and views.…

Hands down, this was a top-10 life experience for me. With that in mind, not everyone will be able to do this hike. We climbed roughly 3,000 ft in under 2 miles. It is a tough, challenging hike, but probably one of the most rewarding experiences ever. My brother-in-law and I were the only two people at the lake. There's one cabin for rent by reservation & the other as a FCFS. Upper Dewey Lake is a fresh-water emerald lake. It was warm that day, so we decided to jump in after our ascent. It was incredibly cold, however very refreshing. It was peaceful, quiet, and very rewarding. I highly, highly recommend. Try going in the AM as there seemed to be more people attempting the hike in the afternoon on our way down.…

Super steep incline that doesnt seem to ever end, but when you finally make it to upper dewey, there is a beautiful lake and cabin and little areas to wander around. *bring bug spray!!* mosquitos are horrible along the lake if you choose to walk around the lake. Then, if you're feeling froggy, devils punch bowl is only about a mile away, and that view is amazing on a ridgeline type trail. …

it's really hard. mind you we're early 60's late 50's but it's hard going up. it's much harder coming down because of the creek bed nature of the trail (rocks, roots). even being in the clouds at the top you could see how beautiful it is. and the flowers (mid-June) on te entire trail were spectacular!!! it took us 3 1/2 up and 3 down. we were tired, but it was a great day!…

This is a long journey. An experienced hikers with all the necessary gear will do at least 2 hrs up. Me i did in 3 with only good boots. No sticks.. during may and June it can get muddy at the top hence all the snow melting. it is very steep. took me 2 hours down. It is spectacular however and worth it. Make sure to take plenty of snacks and you will burn calories like crazy and try not going alone.…
