About
The Pike Place Market has been a defining Seattle icon for more than a century. Considered by many “the soul of Seattle,” the Market spans nine historic acres in the center of downtown where everyday locals and tourists alike shop, visit, eat and discover. Founded in 1907, the Market is one of the oldest and largest continuously operating public markets in the United States and is brought to life by the hundreds of farmers, crafters, small businesses, and residents that call it “home”. For more elbow room, visit on weekday mornings.

    GET THERE EARLY!
Arrive early & go straight to the main entrance where they throw the fish. Once there is a good crowd, they will start this very funny event. This is the only place they do this. The place is crowded & closes down early. It appears that between 3-4 pm, shops are winding down for the day. I found an affordable glass shop & purchased several items--much more affordable than master art glass blower Dale Chihuly (check out my review on Gardens of Glass).

    Really enjoyed this
We really enjoyed our day here. There are plenty of shops to see and the views were great. Really enjoyed seeing the markets either the fresh fish, produce and flowers. We thought the flowers were gorgeous and very reasonably priced for what you get. It was busy but didn’t seem to bother us. A must see in Seattle

    Public Market
A wonderful, crowded market with many craft sellers, flowers, knick knacks, seafood, and eateries throughout the area. About 3 blocks long, with a narrow center walk way, it is the center of tourism all around the market. It gets really crowded on most days so be prepared for it. Lots of places to snack and sample the food. Some public eating facing the water and plenty of bathrooms throughout the market area. Fish throwers are at the bend of the market. Lots of smaller shops on the lower levels. Easy to spend 3 hours around the area.

Crowded and touristy but worth it
Go early…expect big crowds and bring lots of money. The fish and seafood prices are highly inflated. Great vistas of the city and waterfront. Very touristy. Parking is difficult and expensive. Big influx of cruise ship passengers…Long lines (over 2 blocks to visit the original Starbucks). Still worth the visit. 😊

    Must do when in Seattle
Great place to spend a few hours, plenty of places to eat and shop. Watch the fish flying around and generally enjoy the buzz. We had great snacks at Pikes Fish bar.

Must do when you are in Seattle.
Pike Place has a lot of great shops and of course watching the fish being thrown is entertaining. The only drawback is how crowded it is. It was difficult getting around with the number of people milling around and the lines to get into the restaurants were long and most do not take reservations.

    Even in the Rain
I know that there have been hundreds of thousands of reviews written on pikes market in Seattle but I had to add to them. We were in Seattle on the last leg of our Alaskan cruise and ventured into downtown Seattle and found their way over to pikes market. I’ve been to many outdoor markets from LA to San Francisco to Boston and pikes market with its rich history did not disappoint. Even the nasty gum wall was interesting and found us taking pictures and just commenting on why but it was interesting and it accomplish what it is doing right now, having me talk about it.

    Fun, but very crowded
Pike Place Market is one of those must see places while in Seattle, if only to see the Flying Fish. They were so friendly there and even let two young boys try to catch fish (they made sure that they were both successful, even though it took quite a few tries). The staff didn't mind all the people milling around just watching and they were also quite busy selling their wares.

Most of the tabulars are sold out!
The market is home to the first store of the famous Starbucks Coffee. There is always a long line in front of the store as many customers visit. However, you can enter the store after waiting for 20 to 30 minutes. Eating and drinking are not allowed inside the store. All drinks are take-out. In addition, original goods of the first store are sold. However, most types of tumblers were sold out. I stayed in Seattle for a week and visited every day during that time, but the sold-out tumblers were never restocked. All the staff were helpful and friendly. During the daytime there is a large line of customers, but in the evening it is quite empty. However, most of the other markets are closed in the evening, so you won't be able to enjoy shopping.

    Like the Mash
Be prepared to mash up with the throng at the market. Everyone in Seattle takes a turn to elbow their way around the selection of wares. It was a wonderful thing to see and especially the entertaining fish throwers. Wish I had been prepared with my camera as it is done only when the crowd gets them going. There is something for everyone and many levels to choose from. Go and keep your friends close.

My first Flowers Festival at Pike Place Public Market 😍 At last! This was on my bucket list - Things To Do in Seattle. This is their 16th year and usually coincides this festival near of Mother’s Day. I was enjoying to see beautiful colorful vibrant of different species of flowers. It was very busy, buzzing with people, crowded but it was part of fun, I think. I see many stalls are open. It’s a perfect day, sunny and cool weather. Many people eating in the outdoor, busking under the sun. There's a beer house, restaurants, coffee shops, food & beverage vendors, etc. I can understand why Pike Place Market is very popular destination for both local & visitors of Seattle!

Really interesting market with lots of different and varying stall holders selling their goods and products, and little food places to enjoy a bite to eat. There are lots of nooks and crannys to explore and it's quite big so you could easily get lost in there. We enjoyed the atmosphere and walking around it, finding the section so you could see the views over the city towards the ocean was nice. We also found the Bronze Pig, and managed to catch a glimpse of the fishermans flying fish performance they put on.

Could very easily be a tourist trap, but not as much as the 1st Starbucks located across the road that seemed to have a permanent line down the street. The market was much better.

The gum wall was nice for a glimpse but not sure why photos are taken, as it's pretty gross knowing all of it was in people's mouths.

Overall, it is nice to spend a morning of afternoon having a wander around.

This was a short walk from our hotel down to the market.
As markets go its fairly standard. It has the normal fare, flowers, fruit and veg, meat and fish, bric a brac, clothing, souvenirs and food stuffs and more. It also has some stand alone shops in and around the market.
It was overcast and little rainy when we were there but it was still pretty packed and had a bustling feel. It was covered and out of the rain which was nice.
It was a nice market and a good idea to wile away an hour or two walking through the market.

Best experience in Seattle! Love wandering round all the stalls with incredibly friendly and knowledgeable vendors, who love giving out a free sample!

Try going early for a quieter experience.

A touristy thing to do but worth it. The whole area can be covered in a couple of hours depending on the stops you make while walking through. There are numerous different food booths to try, fresh food to buy, crafts, etc.

What a fun place to explore. The vendors of flowers, vegetables and fruit mixed in with artisans.

But when you get to the seafood market it is entertaining watching them throw the fish from each sell. Well worth it to spend time there. We did not know what to expect, but this was awesome. (May, 2023)

We have been in the market 3 times in the last two days - late Saturday afternoon, 9.30am on a Sunday, then midafternoon the same day
It is definitely better early in the day. Much less crowded, room to move and see
Make sure you visit the less visited floors below the main fish/flowers/craft drag - some weird and interesting shops down there
