About
Located in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood, this iconic landmark and observation tower was built for the 1962 World’s Fair. Perch on the glass benches known as “Skyrisers” and gaze out of floor-to-ceiling windows, snap a selfie at the outdoor deck, or head upstairs to The Loupe, an indoor lounge featuring the world’s first and only rotating glass floor. Here, you’ll be greeted with 360-degree views of the downtown Seattle skyline, Mount Rainier, Elliot Bay, and the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. For a smooth-sailing experience, it’s best to pre-purchase a timed ticket. Space Needle is also a part of CityPASS. – Tripadvisor

- Chris HColwall, United Kingdom132 contributionsGreat views. Needs a bit of staff training to be more welcomingFabulous view and close to other attractions. A city pass would have saved us more money but we combined chihuli glass and saved a bit Only bad point was abrupt disinterested young staff at the entrance. They were bored I think. As English people coming over from Canada it made me feel that USA is not as politeVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 October 2023
- MandSExeterExeter, United Kingdom179 contributionsNot to be missed - if the weather's clearDO book in advance, whatever the guidebooks say, or you may be disappointed. The queueing is tedious (hence 4 stars), but the views were stunning. It woukd have been nice to have some interpretation boards to help us learn about the amazing panorama, but (provided the weather's OK) it's a Seattle experience not to be missed.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023
- Lisa WDallas, Texas68 contributionsSeattle CenterAs a first-time visitor to Seattle, I felt obligated to visit the Space Needle. Even though it was a gray day, the views were still interesting and the revolving clear floor offered some fun selfie opportunities. Good activity to combine with a visit to the Chihuly Garden and the Museum of Pop Culture. Take the monorail from downtown.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 October 2023
- MK55 contributionsViews to die forIconic, must do when in Seattle and it doesn’t disappoint. We purchased day and night tickets, which is highly recommended. The nigh-time views are spectacular as you’d expect. During our daytime visit we had lunch in the revolving restaurant, which takes roughly 30mins to complete the 360 rotation. The food and drinks were excellent, recommended if you get chance.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 October 2023
- TerrasTravelsLas Vegas, Nevada2,962 contributionsSpace needleOf course, this is one of the main things to go to in Seattle, but I advise you to get your tickets in advance and the earliest slot. It gets so packed. I went 15 years ago and it was way less crowded. Now it’s just ridiculous! Also, as you walk in, there’s stuff along the walls to look at, but since I knew I had been there before, I just walked right by it straight up to the line and literally skipped a bunch of people that were taking their time looking at the stuff. So if you think you have to stay in that line, you don’t, you can skip all of that and go right to where you get through the little bars. Once on the elevator they pack it so tight get a spot next to a window if you can. Once you’re at the top be sure to go around the whole circle. It’s really cool that they have a glass floor too so you can see straight to the bottom. They also have a couple of mini bars up there, which is fun! You can purchase the tickets online which is easier but if you want any sort of discount such as military, you have to wait in the line to buy tickets. Once you get those tickets, you wait in another line just to get in at a specific time. It’s so crowded now! But great views!Visited June 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 October 2023
- MichelleRoseLeicester, United Kingdom82 contributionsStill good, missed the restaurant though!Updated since my last visit 20 years ago, the revolving glass floor of the lower observation deck is a great addition. Sadly, there is no longer a restaurant at the top of the Needle and the experience is simply not the same. Buy the CityPASS or C3 online to save on entrance prices but do it before you get there or you’ll be faffing about for ages! If you have mobility issues, there is a fantastic service for you and your party to help with accessibility which was offered to and much appreciated by my husband.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 28 October 2023
- Jonathon LOrlando, Florida22 contributionsMust seeThis is a must do when your in Seattle, it’s iconic! Have to make sure you buy your tickets in advance. My wife and I tried to walk up the day before and everything was sold out. It’s not anything they can help but I only gave it 4 stars because the dining option is not available currently. I would have loved to have experienced that. The views of Seattle were spectacular!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023
- MikesugarsugarPembroke Pines, Florida94 contributionsNight time at the Space NeedleWe went on the Space Needle after we toured the Chihuly gallery and garden. You can purchase tickets to both at the Chihuly. It was almost nighttime when we went up and views were spectacular. Seattle really shined at night even though it was raining. Don’t forget to go downstairs to the lower viewing area where you stand on the glass floor and look down from the needle as it rotates around.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023
- Jason RosenauWestlock, Canada731 contributionsVery cool!Another awesome way to see the Seattle skyline. I went on a busy day so there was a wait but it was worth it. Stay up top in the revolving area and have a drink and see Seattle 360 degrees. Also scan the QR code sign and follow instructions to get a downloadable zoom in video of yourself in the top of the Space Needle.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 8 December 2023
- Robert PhPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania24 contributionsI felt I had to do it and I was glad I didIt is a iconic addition to skyline, so I felt I had to visit. The line appeared long when I arrived, but it moved quickly. The view is great and well worth it. Easy to get around once you were up there. I liked it a lot and would not be opposed to be going again should I returnVisited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 December 2023

This is a must do stop. View is amazing! I was somewhat disappointed your not able to eat dinner anymore. They do offer a wine and cheese tour but it was booked and we tried booking 3 weeks in advance on a Monday so plan ahead. Also dont skip the glass art museum in the same complex of buildings it was also very beautiful. We got to needle about 11 we had no waiting in line. Make sure you scan your ticket at the spots on the needle you get free pictures. It was a short trip 4 days we plan on going back this summer

I didn't see a way to review the observation deck and the lounge separately, hence the average rating.
The Loupe Lounge: 4/5
Parents and I did the "Taste of Washington" which included a wine flight, truffle fries, and wagyu beef sliders. It was not mentioned that "sliders" actually meant one for each person, so it was a bit of a disappointment there as far as clarity. We ended up ordering more sliders, though it would have been nice if we had been given the digital menu a bit earlier so we weren't cutting it too close to the end of our allotted time. Our server was excellent, friendly and made the experience worth it overall. The lounge is on the rotating glass floor panel so you have views both below and outwards.
Observation deck: 2/5
I'm a 40yo local who has been up the Space Needle a few times throughout my life. The glass remodel is gorgeous. The cafe and selfie kiosks are still there. But gone is everything else. The maps indoors that would show you what views are in front of you in every direction, the wall murals that showed the history of the Space Needle including information about how it was built. They used to have interactive touch screens too, but now everything is empty and sterile. If it was a matter of cost to upkeep, there should be no cost in leaving at the very least the info maps and history bits on the walls. They have taken out all the important information that makes the Space Needle such a special landmark. Because of that, $35 for an observation deck ticket is a ridiculous cash grab. It's like they removed everything else to keep people from spending too much time up there, for faster turnaround.
If you have reservations for the lounge, you already get access to the observation deck without needing to pay a separate ticket for it. This is much more worth the cost if you have the time, money, and are interested in what the lounge offers. Otherwise you could honestly skip the Space Needle entirely, unless $35 for an empty observation deck to maybe buy overpriced Starbucks coffee excites you. There are many other places to get great views of the city along with much better coffee shops!

I went up the Space Needle because I had purchased the City Pass which made it more affordable. Without the pass the ticket price alone would not have been worth the experience. The ticket also included a return entrance for the same day after 6:30 PM. II did not take advantage of this as I was alone and I do not walk around by myself after dark in a strange city.

I very much enjoyed visiting the Space Needle and some particular highlights were as follow. They operate safe , staged entry in light of Covid. When you enter there is an interesting information display which really evokes the optimistic, futuristic mindset that spurred its construction in 1962. Then they will take a photo of you in front of a green screen which you can download with your chosen Seattle backdrop on the app for free. It is great that this is included in the ticket price (I’m looking at Seattle Aquarium which charges more than 20 dollars to get your photo). The trip in the elevator is quick and fun if you stand by a window. There is a viewing deck with glass windows where you can see views over Lake Union, Queen Anne and the Puget Sound. Half of the viewing deck is taken up by a cafe and has views over the buildings of downtown and towards the East. Then - and don’t miss this - you go down a floor to the floor which revolves. Part of the revolving floor is made of glass and so you can see right below to the structure of the Space Needle and the plaza, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and flower sculptures below. You’ll want to do a couple of rotations to appreciate the sights below and although it’s not really scary kids will love the glass floor. At the ground again is an ok gift shop with lots of choice. All in all I’m pleased with my visit. Yes, it’s no longer the tallest building in Seattle but it’s iconic and the features like the revolving floor make it really memorable.

Avoid at all cost. Not worth the hassle especially with rude staff. The Space Needle is extremely disorganized. It took us 2 hours to get through the line with a 6 month old baby in the summer heat. When we finally got to the top, my sister had to breast fed her hungry baby. There were so many people that all the chairs were unavailable. We took a corner stairs so my sister can feed her crying baby. A few minutes later, a staff came yelling at us for taking up space. I explained that my sister is feeding her baby underneath the blanket and if she can give her a few minutes to finish. The staff refused to listen and proceeded to yell at us further saying that the stairs are for old people to use the rails. I looked around and there was no geriatrics needing to use the rail at that moment. Plus, there’s another rail in the opposite corner that people can use if needed. What a disappointment that Space Needle management tolerates their staff yelling at customers. I will never ever in my life visit the Space Needle again. First of all, it wasn’t even that impressive compared to the view from high risers in NYC (One World Observatory, Empire State, Top of the Rock) and the Space Needle definitely cannot compare with the view from the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Second, I live in DC and I do travel often and have been to many cities and countries, but every time I visit Seattle, my experience with their locals just gets worse and they’re extremely rude - from the Space Needle staff, to Southwest check in counters and yes, even the drivers are crazy. I would expect this in Europe or even Asia, but not in the USA such as Seattle with every encounter of the local customer service is a disappointment and what’s with all the homeless people? It’s starting to look like San Francisco and Los Angeles. I’ve seen homeless people in DC, NYC and even Paris, but the West Coast takes the cake.

My wife and I visited the Space Needle in Seattle on our US trip to Washington State. We enjoyed the 360 view of Seattle and surrounding area. It was busy but visitors were continually moving around so you could see everything by moving too. We went to the top level then walked down 2 floors to the revolving level. Unfortunately one of the lifts wasn't working so there were long lines to descend. The lift operator provided interesting facts and fun commentary and when asked how is day had been he answered "it's been up and down!" Tickets may be purchased either from a manned counter or from the self service machines. Worth a visit plus enjoy the excellent store on the ground floor.

Time your trip to arrive an hour or so before sunset... the line to get in takes a good 45 mins to an hour, even with timed pre bought tickets. Wine bar is more like a roped off section. Loved watching the sunset and then seeing the city lights.

I have been to the needle three times in my life since the late 70's the only thing about the view that has changed is more tall building. Nothing Special and for this type of "Attraction" we rated it about 15 Bucks, you get nothing and have to buy overpriced stuff. I know I am a retired vendor of Space Needle Corporation

Very crowded on a Friday. No social distancing and hardly anyone wearing a mask. They give you a free digital photo that you can choose a background on. Good views of the city and the surrounding mountain ranges. Be aware you have to preschedule a visiting time when you buy a ticket and they do check before letting you in. I felt the combo ticket with the Chihuly museum was kind of pricey.

Not a cheap option but if you’re in Seattle and you want an amazing experience go up the needle an hour or so before sunset and be up there as the sun drops over the horizon. Don’t skip reading the history boards en route. You’ll get stunning views of daylight and then sunset and then the night sky.
If you can, once you’ve done the photo thing grab a drink and seat to watch. The restaurant wasn’t open when we went but we queued a while for a seat at small cafe on revolving floor. Only 5 tables so a bit of a wait (and naturally people not wanting to leave). Got drinks and waygu sliders. Food and drink is expensive but great quality and did I mention the view!. We sat for 90 min whilst it turned a full rotation.

Are there any plans for the return of a full-service restaurant atop the Space Needle?
Written 23 September 2024
It says that the restaurant is permanently closed. We saw that they made the old restaurant space into a small cafe.

Is The Loupe Lounge going to reopen soon? Reservations are still not open for October and we are less than two weeks away.
Written 18 September 2023
There were people seated and dining when we were there
Written 21 September 2023
I see that the closing time is 11 PM, but I read from some reviews that closing time may be earlier?
Also, I did purchase a CityPass, but the latest reservation I can make online is 8 PM.
Ideally, I would like to go later around 9-10 PM (after dinner) - is this possible without a reservation? i.e. don't want to get there at 10 PM and there is a long wait so don't have any time at the top
Thanks in advance
Written 30 August 2022
According to their web page they close at 11 p.m. for at least the next week.
They were checking the tickets to make sure those whose times were to enter could, so don't try to enter at a later time then what is on your ticket. Now it did take nearly an hour before we actually were on the elevators to the top, but that was early afternoon and the lines seemed longer when we came down.
My only other suggestion is to see if you can change your ticket time when you get there, but not sure if you can do that.

What is status of renovation? We will be there evening of 3 August, 2022. Can we make reservations for dinner? Are there packages? Where do we look for the info online if applicable?
Written 28 June 2022
We visited the Space Needle on May 11, 2022. There was a small area at the top of the Space Needle, for drinks and sit down eating, that was different from the "snack bar". It was just opposite the elevator lobby that you use to go down to the main level. I believe that the reception desk in this area did have a sign that indicated that reservations were required. I am not certain if this is the full restaurant or if this was an interim location while the main dining area was being rennovated. The best source for this information is to go directly to the Space Neele website. Even if you can't have dinner at the top of the Space Neele it is still worth the visit - the views are amazing (on a clear day).

I would like to go to the loupe lounge for drinks and small bites. I do not want any of the packaged experiences. Is this possible or do I need to purchase an experience? Can I make a reservation for drinks and small bites only?
Written 6 June 2022
I was there in late February. The main restaurant was closed but they had a really nice lounge with great drinks, food and incredible views. I did not have a reservation nor did I purchase a package. I walked up to a server, told her I wanted to sit for a drink, and she showed us to a great table. It was mid afternoon, and there were several tables open. This may have had something to do with us getting seated. The food was good. We ordered a really nice tiered appetizer tower. There are some fun drinks as well (smoke from dry ice ). Call and see what they say just to make sure. I did not like the "packages" they offered, but we spent easily $100+ for two of us. It was worth it!!!

We will be in Seattle on May 27th and would like to eat at the Space Needle. Is the restaurant open?
Written 19 April 2022
Yes it is. I believe it is a "different" version of the full restaurant (at least as of March 2022 when I was there). It's more like a bar/ lounge with great drinks and food. I highly recommend calling ahead or reserving on line. They are busy and it would be a shame to miss it. Can't beat the views.
