We took the monorail to head from the Space Needle to Pikes Market. At $2.50/one way per person to save a 8 minute walk wasn't really worth it to me. It felt like taking the monorail at the Orlando airport.

The Spheres are worth a specific visit, with a great view from the exterior, and free access to the exhibits on the lower level of the building. We did walk there from the Downtown Monorail location in less than 10 minutes. The Spheres were not viewed/seen during the Monorail ride itself.
Yes - entrance is on second floor of mall. Look up and you will see monorail on East side of mall. There is a separate entrance just for monorail where you can walk up or take elevator or you can enter from mall.
