Very exciting to be in this church. So much history. There are still bullet marks on the walls from the fierce fire fight that took place on the early morning hours of D-Day.

This church has so much history with the paratrooper hanging from the steeple and the amazing led light windows. This village is such a pretty place but a shame hardly anything was open.

Sainte Mère Eglise probably wouldn't exist as the bustling centre it is today had the parachutists not been waylaid there, as such, the town strong emphasises this part of its history. It is however well done, and the church is a good example. The church...More

Didn't know much about D-Day until we happened to visit this little town. It was the first to be liberated during the Overlord invasion. The church the town is named for is most famous for the American paratrooper, John Steele, that got caught up on...More

This church has so much history! Our guide said it is about 900 years old. It is most well known for its role in the Normandy invasion. They have affixed a replica paratrooper to the roof to demonstrate how one of the men was caught...More

The church itself was built in the 1100s and has a distinct feeling of strength in the time it has withstood it all. After all, it was the middle of a huge firefight and conflagration all around it in the early hours of the opening...More

Historic church in the center of town made famous by John Steele getting stuck on the roof on D-Day. Lovely stained glass windows. You must make a stop here to honor the US Army's 82d Airborne Division.

Revisited this small church with a private tour and I am always amazed at the stained glass window which shows two paratroopers descending on D Day. Need to view the Longest Day film again and see all the points of interest that we saw on...More

This church is not surprisingly nothing special, although the windows are very nice. But because of the historic impact the building became famous. Paraglider hangs on the tower, but one the wrong side, because to please the tourists.
