If you feel like a change from visiting the chateaux, this is a great visit. This huge cathedral like old quarries make you travel back millions of years in time, when Europe was covered by water and the local stone Tuffeau was created. A wonderful experience including sound, light, installations and information, for visitors of every age.

When you have soms time to spare, you have to visit this place! Perhaps not to exiting for kids but you get explained hoe the limestone was created and how it was excavated by the stoneman.Above all you get a fascinating tour with lights projection and sounds through the impressive chambers.

This trip into the caves was preceded by a short presentation in French as you would expect, however the staff went out of their way to translate into English for us. You can visit unaccompanied which is great. One of our party was using a scooter and the path down was fully accessible, as was the caves below. Thank youthe,... More

2The height of the caves is quite something & the story of how they were dug out by quarrying farmers is interesting. The authorities have added light and sound effects to add "mystery" to various areas and give an idea of the geological and scientific aspects.Parts are more absorbing than others and you could easily walk through without taking that... Decided to head underground on a hot day, followed by a spot of lunch. Chose le Mystère and found it quite different and enjoyable. Very pleasant welcome and explanation of the visit and the mix of background to the quarry activity and the presentation of 'art' makes for an enjoyable hour or so. Not something you would find too often... More

You need to be pretty desperate to need to go to this cave. Tries to be more than it is which is just a cave with some pretty lights. Not recommended.

An outstanding and immersive son et lumiere display of troglodyte life. So imaginatively put together it was a joy to visit. Please add it to your itinerary if you are in the area.

This a C19th quarry, which has been filled with a light and sound show trying to illustrate that the area was previously under the sea, and subsequently savannah. Tastefully/artfully done but not a must see. Suspect the EU may have spent the several million euros it cost better somewhere else.

We visited the caves unsure of what to expect we were not dissapointed. The caves had been imaginatively filled. The lighting and sound effects were perfect. Although visiting in August is was fairly quiet so you were able to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. Entrance fairly cheap too (ud pay a lot more for similar in England). Loved the jellyfish display.

We thought this was a very imaginative way of using the space of a quarry. The skeleton of the whale was impressive. Going back 10 millions year to the bottom layer of the deposits was amazing. We particularly like the jelly fish display. Take a warm jumper. It gets chilly in the cave.
