Good entertainment!

We are both pilots (Single Engine Land and Sea) so we love to watch small airplanes here. Perfect place for Hangar Flying!

Lots of aricraft

This is one of the largest if not the largest floatplane base in the word. There is not place to go to restroom unless you are going with one of the places that take off from the area. However, it is worth the drive to see the float planes (there are a lot) and then see the gravel runway for the smaller planes with wheels. After you leave you can go a short distance and see the larger passenger commercial planes take off at the end of the airport runway.

Small Plane Heaven
Jul 2020
Lake Hood is the world's largest float plane airport. There are many places around the lake to watch take offs and landings. If you like small planes, you should definitely stop there.

Largest Sea Plane Base in the World
Jul 2020
When visiting Anchorage don't miss an opportunity to visit Lake Hood (adjacent to the Anchorage International Airport. This is a very busy air base for personal and commercial float and ski equipped small aircraft.

Unique Experience
Jun 2020
We really enjoyed watching the planes taxi, take off, and land on the water. We had never seen this outside of television and movies. There are dozens of seaplanes parked along the shores you can also check out from a respectable distance (they are private property after all).

Interesting - Sea planes galore
Jul 2019
Make sure you drive around the lakes shoreline entirely to see all of the seaplanes and how massive this is, so many seaplanes. This is a not to be missed if staying in Anchorage.

LAKE HOOD, and Lake Spenard are the busiest Seaplane and Float plane base in the WORLD!!!
Sep 2019
We spent and afternoon here at Lake Hood and the adjoining Lake Spenard watching every kind of float plane and seaplane imaginable and with the adjacent runway for General Aviation wheeled aircraft you will probably see more year round activity then anywhere else in the world.
With the two lakes, its easy to park and watch all the different kinds of airplanes come and go. And if you'll take some time to walk around the lakes banks you'll meet all sorts of Alaskan aviators who love to talk about their airplanes and flying in wild Alaska.. Pilots and non pilots, everyone is welcome...

A great spot to watch an unusual form of transportation.
Oct 2019
The Lake Hood Seaplane Base is the largest seaplane base in North America. It's a great place to watch seaplanes take off and alight and taxi upon the water. If you're interested in aviation, or even if you're just curious, there is nothing quite like this anywhere else. There are various operators based at Lake hood who offer seaplane rides, for those wanting to fly.

We had booked a flight from here on our last day but it was cancelled, no fault of harbour though. We did go Down for a short visit and it was very interesting and would have spent more time here if we could.

are there tours of Alaska by plane available at this location

Yes, u may hire tour pilots all up and down the lake.
Some are more tourist oriented than others, and much depends on size or group. U must check out multiple companies and go with one u have most confidence in.
Alaska pilots are unique people and should not be judged by commercial flight standards. Go with the one who knows the business of flying Alaska.
