The settlement centre includes 2 exhibitions with audio guide in several languages. One is about the first viking settlers in Iceland, and it's interesting as it gives you a historical view on how the process of colonisation happen. The other is about the Icelandic Saga...More

We really liked the feeling you get during the show: during 60', you have a headset telling you where to go, and you hear plenty of tales and names of Icelandic Settlers. Visuals look very artistic and you really feel immerged in the mythical world...More

Thank you for your review. Well we are not at all telling the Icelandic history. We are telling the tales and legends preserved in old manuscripts written in the 12th century - But I am glad you found the visuals artistic and felt immerged in...More

This was the best museum/interpretive centre I have visited in years. One floor was the story of how Iceland was discovered and settled, and the other floor was the saga of Egil Hallgrimsson (sp.?) the bully of a Viking who was also a sensitive poet....More

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. I am not too fond of museum myself so we always emphasize that these are exhibitions with installations to tell the story written in Iceland´s old manuscripts. So glad you and your twelve-year old enjoyed it. Best...More

This looked like a visitor centre cafe from the outside, but turned out to be a good restaurant. Not cheap, but decent food isn't in Iceland

Maybe after completing the ring-road and having been museum deprived this just drenched the thirst, but we loved this place. On reflection there isn't much there but it was a cultural afternoon after so much natural wonder.

This is a worthwhile attraction ... you learn quite a bit on this quick audio tour. There is a gift shop (of course!) and a restaurant at the same location. No pictures are allowed inside the exhibit itself. Everyone is given an audio & headset...More

Thank you for your review. Well if you are travelling with a group you may have to wait sometimes. I it is not so that only 2 people can go through at a time but we have to let about 1 minute pass between each...More

The first excellent factual exhibition on the settlement of Iceland was fascinating and very well presented with photographs and graphics. It was about 30 minutes long with an audio guide which told you when to move to the next exhibit. The second exhibition told the...More

You should try to do this early in your trip, as it will put a lot of the island in historical context. You’ll think it’s not worth the effort, but I assure you it was.
