Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a beautiful place that is easily accessible from Reykjavik and combinable with visits to Gunnuvher and the Blue Lagoon. If you travel Iceland for a week or more this is a place you will easily forget as Iceland has so much more beautiful places to offer. In hindsight this is not very special compared to most of Iceland beauty.

While exploring Reykjanes Peninsula, on our first day in Iceland, Brimketill was our 3rd stop, following Bridge Between Continents and Gunnuhver. This is a very quick stop, for a few photos, and to take in the views of the coast. This lava rock pool is a cool geological feature. There are designated viewing platforms, a few steps from the parking area.

I definitely recommend spending some time visiting Reykjanes Peninsula and the unusual sights. May not be as spectacular as the sights on the South, or photogenic, but they are unusual and worth seeing.
In case you are interested, these are the sights we hit on our tour of the Reykjanes Peninsula: Bridge Between Continents, Gunnuhver Hot Springs, Reykjanes Lighthouse, Brimketill Lava Rock, Krísuvíkurberg, Krysuvik geothermal area (Seltún, Kleifarvatn and Grænavatn).

This is off the beaten track, but the waves crashing into the shore and over the lava rocks is both spectacular and hypnotic. I had flown into Keflavik and had several hours before I could check in to my hotel. As I had rented a car, I drove south to Grindavik and then back west and north around the coast, and just stumbled on to Brimketill. It was unexpected and beautiful.

After visiting the bird cliffs in the Westfjords at the beginning of our trip, this paled in comparison. Apparently the tide was out when we visited as we didn't see the crashing surf about which others have written. As my title indicates, you should stop if you're touring Grindavik but don't make a special trip here.

Thanks for reading. If you’ve found this helpful I’ll appreciate a thumbs up below.

This place is good if you are near and want to check it, however, I wouldn't recommend a visit just for this. The lava formation are curious to see, spend a while and go back to your car.

We saw this on an Icelandic photographer's Facebook page. Google maps took us right to the small parking area. There is a currently a footpath/metal construction being undertaken which pinpoints where the attraction is.
We visited on a lovely bright, calm day so managed to get to the attraction. The surrounding rocks are covered in seaweed but luckily enough it wasn't slippery.
This place is well worth a visit.

Legend has it that a troll uses this for a bathtub. And it sure does look like it. Never seen anything like this before.

There’s a viewing platform that lets you observe Brimketill from a safe distance. You can take a walk along the beach as well.

Tip: We wound up visiting Brimketill after we got done at Gunnuhver Hot Springs. The bridge between continents is also close by. Works out really well because of the proximity of these three attractions.

This place is just a minute off the main road from Gunnuhver hot springs to Grindavík and is well worth a stop if you are driving around the Reykjanes Peninsula. The Atlantic Ocean is so powerful at this spot and the rock formations are beautiful. If you stand at the edge, you will get splashed!

We knew it would be a challenge to find. Luckily we came across 2 others searching for the waterfall, we found the waterfall after 15 mins. It’s breathtaking. My favorite waterfall!

Another place we stoped along our drive around the peninsula read the information about the natural spring but as it was a windy day we couldn’t see the spring as the waves were so hi but I could of stayed there all day just watching the huge waves smashing against the rocks but be warned although the lookout ledge is very high above sea level it is no match for the Height the waves come up and over as I found out the hard way getting absolutely soak but it was a whole lot of fun
