You can count on excellent music nightly in one or more of the bars in Kilcar although things do tend to get going rather late, think 9.30-10 pm. The daily music classes (fiddle, accordion etc) were both very good and extremely inexpensive.

Kilcar, a very charming small town with a lovely festival to see! They are well dressed and friendly lads playing traditional music.

Best thing about are the music classes. Great value for the Tutors are brilliant. For example Patricia Flynn for Sean Nous singing (traditional style) and Aidan O'Donnell from the Group Fidil for advanced fiddel! Paradise for Irish trad. Music!

Don't go there expecting a large packed festival like Willie week or Fleadh Nua, but it's a lovely small festival with an almost family-like feel to it. The concerts were good (some were actually excellent!) and the sessions in the pubs were, as in most festivals, mixed - but with a few really outstanding musicians in attendance. We didn't stay... Went to Ireland last year - travelled around Donegal, Great place, We stumbled upon a Music Festival in a village called Kilcar - it catered for the whole family, with traditional music and dance workshops of a variety during the day, and in the evening Concerts and Ceili dancing, which was very enjoyable. We plan to return to Donegal this... More
