About
The Castello di Bracciano - a stone's throw from Rome - is one of the most impressive castles in Italy, Europe and the world. Completed in 1485 by the Orsini family, around an existing 12th century Vico fortress, it is one of the few renaissance castles in Italy that - thanks to the Odescalchi family - is open to the public. It also plays host to numerous weddings, galas and important cultural events throughout the year.

A wedding venue not a castle - I do not see the logic of charging the same as to enter the coliseum to walk around someone’s wedding venue. A beautiful setting for a wedding but do not charge a family 34 euros to walk around looking at glasses and table decorations - this is surely a scam???

Would not want to miss this. It is one of the most beautiful castles in Italy. The castle was built in the 1400s it is unbelievable in size and condition. We did the self guided tour in a little over an hour. The rooms were huge and you could see the armaments that were used for this period of time.

We went back to Bracciano just to see the Castle again. It is only 1 hour from Rome by train and it is perched on a beautiful lake. It is magnificent both outside and inside. We loved the fact that you can go through the castle without guided tours and follow a video that you can download in your smartphone. The video explains everything and you can stop as much as you want to admire views, architectural details and objects. We sat in the courtyard for 20 minutes to absorb the magic atmosphere. Among the rooms out favorite was the Sala with the Renaissance icons. The Pietà in the center and the Annunciation in the background are splendid. The castle is owned by a princess and you have the feeling to be welcomed by the noble Odescalchi family.

Bracciano, although not very well known, is a ride you must take, when in Rome. The Castle, the lake , the town are all very interesting . And if you happen to be hungry, I strongly recommend Selita Bistro-Via Principe di Napoli.

All I can say is, how isn’t this one of the most popular tours in the world? We were shocked at the level of preservation of one of the most spectacular historical sites and views we’ve ever seen. We almost did this entire tour without seeing another person. It was literally the hottest day of the year in Italy, but other than the lake, a great place to cool off. The audio tour was extremely well done - bring your AirPods! Couple this tour with the restaurant next to castle - Pane e Olio. I learned a lot about the Renaissance period and the Medici family. And the kitchen, armor and weapons that were preserved are worth the tour alone.

It was a nice place to visit just for the atmosphere and the view. Not too crowded. Took you immediately on a timetravel in history. Beautiful place. Many celebrity weddings been here I heard. Not surprised. A lovely restaurant just outside so after the tour it was nice to chill out.

After many years of living in Bracciano as a child before moving to the US, I came back with my wife (who is American) to show her the castle. We were in a group that was mostly non Italian speaking (Germans and Americans). Nowhere did it say the tour would only be in Italian so when the guide started speaking, one of the German visitors pointed out almost no one spoke Italian. The guide was very put off and said (in English) the tour was in Italian and there would be signs in each room once we got in that would be in English. That already seemed like a scam to me - many people might choose to not spend the money if they knew they are not going to understand a thing. Anyway, once in the first room, it was clearly apparent to me that the English signs were but a fraction of what the guide was saying so I started whispering in my wife's ear what she was saying. Before long, you could see some of the visitors had gravitated towards me so they could at least understand some of what she was saying. About hlafway through (in the Isabella Room), the guide stopped talking, looked at me, raised her voice and told me I was disturbing everyone, and she was tired of having to wait for me to finish translating and she had other tours to go back to and that she was going to have to be there until 8PM (like that's my problem?). Unreal. Ok, so first of all, I am a professional interpreter, so I don't need ANYONE to wait for me. I can keep up just fine, and I was whispering anyway. She was just pissed off that the majrity of the group had started listening to me. In fact, some of the US visitors came up to me afterwards saying they were sorry I stopped and they had been trying to listen to me. Once in the kitchens, the guide gave this really long explanation on where things used to be etc. and then left to go out in the courtyard. After that, some other tourist walked up to me and asked me what she said, since they had no idea what they were looking at.
So, dear guide, no I wasn't disturbing anyone, in fact I was providing a service you should be providing to your paying customers. Besides, again, I was whispering, so she obviously had a huge chip on her shoulder. Very sad about this, as Bracciano used to be my hometown, but I can't help but NOT recommend that you visit the castle. Just take a few pretty pictures of the town and the outside, and move on to a place where foreign tourists are treated with respect.

While visiting Rome, we decided to get out of the hustle & bustle of the more frequented tourist attractions & headed to countryside. One of our first stops was the Castello di Bracciano. We did our own walk through the castle using the self-tour guide, which was very detailed & helped us navigate the castle at our own pace. I am not a big history buff & found it very fascinating. My mother, who loves history, absolutely loved reading all the placards that are placed throughout each rooms. For me the best part of the Castle were the beautiful views from various windows in the Castle - beautiful & breathtaking!

Visited the castle around noon on Sunday. There were no other visitors which made the experience even greater. Great place with well planned route to discover every part of the castle.

Views form the towers are breath taking. A must visit if you are in the area. I can see why Tom and Katie got married here.
