Welcome to Harvard Square

Each year, over 8 million men, women and children visit Harvard Square. Visitors come for a variety of reasons; this is a place of history, of books, of ideas, and of learning. It is a place of bookstores and coffee houses, of fine dining and eclectic shopping. It is a place of folk music and old theaters, of Cuban ballet and world-class music, of street-performers and award-winning pizza, of public discourse, and public art. Whatever brings you here, we welcome you and hope you enjoy your stay.

After walking around Harvard a little, we decided to check out the square. Fun place to get a flavor of local life for the students.

There's a lot to do in Harvard Square! Regardless of what kind of food you like, you will find something to satisfy your palette here. I especially enjoyed Tattle, a coffee shop and bakery in the area. The T station is located here as well.

There's the Harvard Bookstore and also the Harvard Co-Op, both full of interesting books. The urban studies section of the Co-Op tempted me to think about another year of research...

I was expecting a square like in English towns. It's nothing special in my opinion. Just a regular place. I guess it may have been something grand in its past.

Harvard Square used to be cool...only thing left are a few bookstores and one or two nice restaurants.. the rest is heading towardd cheesecake factory land. Cool has definitwly moved to nearby Somerville. It you need a Starbucks or a Bank then Harvard Sq is what you crave.

I lived in Boston in the late 80's - late 90's. I recalled Harvard Square being busy not but not crowded. I went there with my family around 6pm on Saturday and it was packed. All restaurants had a 1 hour wait. When did students have budget to spend for eat and drink at sit down nice restaurants? Guess the... More

We mostly drove through the area. Parked and walked to a cafe. The area was nice. I would suggest a stop if you have the time.

Harvard's move toward standardization will eventually obfuscate the majority of Harvard Square's charm & unique character. It is tending toward an upscale mall barely different than middle AMERICA. HO HUM.
