Best day, stunning hike with breathtaking views of coves and mountains..
we spent a few hours walking and stopped off at two of the Calas for much needed cooling off in the crystal clear water
Hiking is hilly but paths are well maintained albeit rocky
Definitely need trainers or hiking boots,p and plenty of water and snacks as there is nothing in the reserve once you enter we made the mistake of not bringing enough and had to cut our time on the beach short after hours in the sun
A must visit in the area

This is why we stayed in Scopello - the Reserve was shut owing to Alerta Meteo - heavy rain & strong winds - so we never walked the trails! It’s shut again a week later though weather less extreme. We can accept the safety need - rock falls, land slips etc.
However the info on their website is lamentable, not updated in time, the staff at entrance surly & unhelpful. They have in fact 2 websites - they don’t give the same facts 😵‍💫 - needs to be sorted out ✅!
Turns out it’s shut not infrequently - also for strong winds & fire risks in summer months. Parking is relatively limited - so arrive early - but first check it’s OPEN!

I returned to Sicily primarily to visit Zingaro where I had hiked 20 years ago. It is still breathtakingly beautiful. I was able to take two hikes starting at the south entrance which is near Scopello. The entry fee is 5 euros. I was given a good map of the trails in the preserve at the entrance. I hiked on the main trail to the north entrance and returned to the south entrance. With my side trips to the several small coves along the way I covered 10 miles. There are several other trails in the preserve with many more opportunities for day hikes. Wild flowers were blooming in abundance.

The park is beautiful, with lovely coves / beaches and scenery! The only problem was as soon as you went down to the beach (even not eating)/with food) you were harassed by many wasps. It made it difficult to enjoy sitting and enjoying the views on the beach and I was stung whilst sat not moving so not ideal.

We started at the Scopello entrance (thankfully found the last remaining parking space in the nearest parking lot), paid the 5E admission and set off. It’s about 12kms all the way to San Vito lo Capo, and you need to retrace along the same route to return.

Terrrific views, and secluded beaches and coves to explore en route. The popular Cala Capreria is reachable about 15 minutes into the hike itself. This is a physically strenuous hike, though not dangerous in any way with some changes in elevation en route. Bring enough refreshments and water (free water fountain near Scopello gate). Given there is very limited shade and its been an unusually hot summer, this can really sap your energy. We only went as far as Cala Marinella and returned, taking about 4.5 hours with stops.

Beautiful park with lots of different kind of beaches to see. The closest beach to the parking lot is about 15 mins walk away, and the furthest seem like hours away. I think it would be very difficult if you have mobility issues, but otherwise worth a detour as the views here are breathtaking.

At the gate of scopello for the reserve there is a truck signed like “last place to but water and food before the reserve”.
Really not recommended. 50 mt after, exactly in front of the gate you can find a drinking free water point where you can refill your bottles.
At the truck they sale 0.5lt for 1,5€!
Too much considering the fact than in every bar in Sicily they can give you a glass of water for free, or a 1.5 lt bottle for max 1€.
Fruit and sandwiches sama same. Not nice and too expensive.
Better stop in some bar on the way to the reserve to buy water and food.

I am sorry I must give a low score as the place itself is a paradise. However be aware of remote areas if you are a woman and travelling by yourself.
I have visite the Natural Reserve of the Zingaro on my last day and on my way back to the hotel in the afternoon I stopped along the rural path to the Natural Museum. There was an old guardian there around 70 year named Dino, whom claimed to belong to the forestry officers corps. Very kind knowledgeable and just talkative in appearance. With the excuse of showing me around the natural area he claimed to have planted himself he then walked me to a remote corner of the vegetation and there tried to harrass me!
I just walked away quicly, scared and angry to the point that I got all my legs scratched by the thorns of the vegetation while getting on to the main path.

I didn't even reported to the police as it happened to me many time to get unclaimed attention by men there, that I surrendered to the idea that it must be their habit. In general a solo traveller lady, Sicily can't be safe in my opinion. They misunderstand politeness for unwanted attentions. I felt less safe here than in Tunis.
