Along with Agecroft Hall, Virginia House is a portion of a Tudor estate dismantled in Great Britain and moved to Virginia in the 1920's. It's a fascinating tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide. It is also worth the visit to see the surrounding neighborhood of lovely private homes. Virginia House is open by appointment only, but it was easy... More

We really enjoy history and Virginia is one of the most historical places you can visit. We took the Virginia House tour today and it was lovely. Our tour guide (Irene) was pleasant, knowledgeable, and an excellent guide. The Virginia House and it's gardens are lovely. Rich in history. Just beautiful. I know their Web site says to try and... Of all the guides I had in five days in Richmond. This guide in the garden was the most knowledgeable. She knew the gardening aspects and the garden design. There could not have been a better tour of a garden

Nice house, nice tour guide, pretty neighborhood, pretty grounds but the overall feeling I walked away with was the entire setting was contrived. I'm not sorry I went but I'm glad I didn't make a special trip just to see it.

We arrived for a 10 AM tour on a rainy day and could not have asked for better! We were the only people in our tour, so we had the docent to ourselves. She was very well informed, friendly, and un-rushed. By the time our tour had ended, the rain had also let up, so we took a self-guided tour... More

We were actually trying to visit the Agecroft Hall next door, but we weren't sorry we came here. The young lady who was our guide was quite enthusiastic about the house, the occupants and its rich history. Located in a beautiful neighborhood, you will need GPS to find it. Our guide gave us a complete history of the house from... More

What a disappointment! My wife and I also set aside an afternoon to visit Virginia House Museum, and discovered chains across the entrance "By Appointment Only". Like the previous reviewer, I also found absolutely NO notice of this on their official website. Since I live in the Philadelphia area, it may not happen any time soon that I would return.... More

If you are interested in old houses, this is a place you should really see. We were there on an afternoon in late may and arranged a tour. Our plans for the day changed and we arrived almost an hour early for our 2 PM tour. The site director was very helpful and showed us the garden so we could... More

Read online that you had to make reservations to tour this home, so I communicated with them and set everything up. They were ready for us and we had a wonderful tour. So many interesting facts! The house and gardens are just beautiful! We took lots of pictures inside and out. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Great... More

I took some friends visiting from CT here the other day and we really enjoyed it. Elizabeth was a treasure trove of information about the house, the artifacts and the couple who built it. It's not the usual static restored-to-the-period house and gardens. You do need to call ahead to arrange a tour.
