If you enjoy history and architecture the Virginia State Capitol combines both and is worth a stop. Free admission. We joined a guided tour which provided additional interesting insight into the building and the people who helped guide the founding of a new nation.

I had visited the Capitol before several years ago, but our most recent visit was definitely much better and I came away with a better sense of the history and workings of the place. Our tour with Mr. Waller was fantastic. He was a wealth of information and took us in to see both the delegates and senators in action... More

First the logistics: The tour was 1.25 hours long and it was free. Just check in at the visitors center. If you are early for the tour, there is a tiny cafe where you can grab lunch or coffee just behind the visitor center. Parking at the garage adjacent to the Museum of the Confederacy is one parking option. The... More

A wonderful historic building, with several interesting displays in the new section. We happened in while the House was in session, so it was fun to sit in and watch the proceedings from the balcony. The rotunda and the George Washington statue were amazing. The grounds were the perfect compliment.

You really must tour this historic building that was designed by Thomas Jefferson. The original walls are several feet thick, there are magnificent statues and portraits. It is breath-taking inside and out.

Even if you are not a Civil War history buff, this elegant building is definitely worth a visit. After all, it's the only state capitol designed by a US president--Thomas Jefferson.

See a life like statue of George Washington. He had his face plastered for this statue. See the huge picture of the Battle of Yorktown, gifts from England,Thomas Jefferson holding the plans for the capitol, along with a great view. A guided tour gives you the history of the items. The guided tour is about 1 1/2 hours. Bring a camera.... More

Visited the Capitol on a summer evening. It was really nice. As we visited at dusk, I'm not sure if they allow folks to walk through or tour the inside. Walking around Capitol Square Park in the evening is definitely worth it, though.

Virginia's Capitol has so much of our nation's history as well with Virginia being the home to 8 former Presidents. Between the architecture and stories, we enjoyed our visit.

We took the guided tour but they also have a personalized one. If you are a history fan, then this is a great place to check out. Lots of walking and in winter, they keep the place warm.
