We stopped for the hour long guided tour of the inside of the state capitol building. The tour wasn't over crowded even at 12 noon on a Saturday. I wish I could tell you the name of our tour guide, she was amazing. She had a very compelling voice and included plenty of fun facts that even kids would enjoy.

After spending years of driving through Richmond we decided to visit and we're glad we did. The tour was very revealing on the rich history of Richmond. I would highly recommend this tour and it's free.

What's to argue? This is a beautiful, historic building inside and out with a fascinating history and well-presented tour. More people should visit State Capitols period, it's a great way to spend a day; however, this one is unique and special with its Classical Greek influence and Thomas Jefferson connection.

This is a gorgeous building, designed by Thomas Jefferson. We decided to take the guided tour which lasts about an hour and really enjoyed it. It's very interesting and informative and the past was really brought to life by the narrator. This is a must see whether you are interested in architecture, founding fathers, Civil War history, historic gardens, government,... More

Whether you here to address a Senate Hearing, protesting a bill, or receiving an accolade. Perhaps just taking a walk around, this is worth a quick visit. Enter through the tunnel and go thru security and visit Mr. Jefferson's statue. The Governor's mansion is nearby and the grounds around the Hill have monuments and outbuildings. The facade facing toward the... More

Tour takes a little over one hour and is very informative as provided by Ms. Turpin, a retired school teacher who loves sharing a wealth of knowledge regarding the history of our country and the artifacts and renovation of the capitol. The tour is free and highly recommended to refresh one's historical perspective on the creation of our democracy.

We elected to take the official guided tour around the State Capital Building and very pleased that we did. The guide was most informative explaining the government procedures and relevant artifacts relating to each room and area. She stated that this was where Linloln was filmed and explained how the building was altered together with the addition of computer graphics.... More

Most people don't realize that Jefferson "built this"! He is the only president that built one of the capitol buildings. What a great talent, contributing to many of our original national documents, the Declaration of Independence, and served as the Third President of the United States; which is why he got away with so, so much in his personal life.... Walked around the grounds. There is so much to do around this area but this is a great stop to add to your list.
