The Capitol is situated in a beautiful park, lots of statues, all historical highlights. There are free tours offered in the Capitol, and we had an outstanding tour guide who told us lots of stories about the Capitol Building. A travel back to history class but being in this historic building and with the tour guide telling the stories like... More

It is a little tricky getting here as you have to go down a pathway to get to this white palace. There is no fee for this attraction, but there are a lot of stairs and the elevators looked scary. There are also tours here if you desire. You have to get your belongings and yourself checked by security like... More

I recently toured the Virginia Capitol Building with my husband and in-laws. We were very impressed by the underground visitors center, where we perused the exhibits while we waited for our tour to begin. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared great stories about the history of Virginia and Richmond. The building is beautiful inside, and the grounds are... More

Guided tours (free) are given Monday-Saturday, from 9-4, and on Sundays, from 1-4. With out-of-town guests, we recently took a tour for the fourth or fifth time. I have become more and more impressed with the tour guides; their knowledge and their enthusiasm to share that knowledge. The short version is that the design was, primarily, Thomas Jefferson's, with assistance... More

The grounds and interior are steeped in history. Lots to see and read inside. I love the courtroom and to think of the debates held inside

The grounds and building are beautiful. There is plenty to see for young and old. There are elevators and ramps for visitors that need them. There are scheduled tours available.

Whether you go for the history, the architecture, the symbolism, the underground city, or the priceless art, the Virginia State Capitol is a must-see. Take a guided tour, but leave time to wander around on your own. This is Mr. Jefferson's capitol, and a new statue greets you at the underground rotunda. He conceived the building as a classical temple... More

The grounds of the Capital Building is amazing and so well kept. We arrived late in the day. Hence could not see the inside of the building. Overall, it is a place worth visiting.

What a great side trip - the Capitol on the hill! After years of passing thru Richmond on I-95, I finally visited the Virginia Capitol. Beautiful building and grounds! And we lucked up with a private tour of the building. All that history just oozing from the walls, floors, pictures, displays, and our tour guide! Mrs. Evans was wonderful! You... More
