Monument Avenue has more than memorials (mostly to Civil War generals); it has a variety of humble, fine and palatial homes which the decades have scattered along one of the most desirable addresses in Richmond.

If you like gawping at fab old mansions, this will be (literally) up your street. It had me pulling up my Redfin app to see what might be for sale. Charming gracious street.

If you are interested in a scenic drive or walk and enjoy history, then give this a go. Best to view during the spring.

Then you will like this. I did not. They include one monument to Arthur Ashe, which was nice, but zero women and none to the sin of slavery. I am Caucasian person with interest in real history of humanity. Most of Richmond is very diverse except monument Ave.

A very pretty tree lined street. We parked by the JEB Stuart monument and walked down the street to the other monuments. It's quite a walk, but it's flat and easy. And the walk gave us time to admire the beautiful houses along the way. A must see!

Pretty neighborhoods, interesting architecture, history, local cafes - highly enjoyable stroll. Site of the UCI cycling race and Monument 10K. Best in the Fall on a sunny day.

It's just a wide boulevard with huge statues every block or so; but was well worth the drive. The houses lining the street are grand, huge oak trees in the centre of the street create grandeur, and the statues commemorate historical characters. It's a perfect entrance to arrive downtown.

Beautiful and scenic part of the city with beautifully kept Southern style homes, tree lined streets and impressive monuments dedicated to the pivotal figures of the Confederacy.
