The Byrd could be beautiful (but they'd probably raise the price)

The Byrd is an old, once magnificent, movie theater in Richmond Virginia, in the Carytown neighborhood. (Lots of good, inexpensive restaurants.) The good news is that they show... read more

We had a great experience going to the Byrd Theatre over Christmas to see It's a Wonderful Life. The organ and Bob were wonderful but .. the place is extremely dirty. We all understand they are raising money to renovate the theatre but there is no reason for it to be that dirty. It looked like they had cleaned it... More

The Byrd is an old, once magnificent, movie theater in Richmond Virginia, in the Carytown neighborhood. (Lots of good, inexpensive restaurants.) The good news is that they show modern second-run films (as soon as they leave the megaplexes), Saturday kiddie matinees, and old classic movies. The better news is, admission is only a $1.99, or $5 for big screen classics... More

Fun place for a 2nd run movie or old classic. Atmosphere is old school, beautiful architecture. Go when they play the Wurlitzer organ - another classic.

I have a thing for old movie palaces and my wife indulges me. While staying in Richmond on vacation, we went to the Byrd Theater on a Monday night and it was exactly as billed. It is beautiful in its faded glory and wonderfully eccentric in its dilapidated seats. We really enjoyed it - it was a romantic change from... More

The Poe Film Festival was being held at the Byrd Theater September 23rd and 24th which was sponsored by The Poe Museum of Richmond. I am so glad they chose this venue to showcase the Poe films starring Vincent Price among other Poe films made by new and up and coming film makers. Victoria Price, the daughter of horror icon... Movies aren't the newest but for $2 it's a great deal. Popcorn at most is $5 and same for drink. Seats are not in good shape but hey it's $2!!!

If you want to see a great theater of the past and enjoy a good movie? This is the place! Just needs more renovating. Also, lobby could be attended to better.

Without equivocation, the best theatrical filmgoing experience to be had in the United States. The venue is a Nationally Historic gem, and the ticket pricing harkens back to the fifties and sixties. Wait a few months after new films are released, and catch them here. It will be worth it. Not to mention, the house has a wonderfully working Wurlitzer,... More

If you're interested in value-packed, reasonably priced summer entertainment, head over to the Byrd Theater summer Saturdays at 10 a.m. for Family Classics. This past week was the 1964 "Annie" with Carol Burnett, Albert Finney, Tim Curry, Bernadette Peters and Geoffrey Holder, among others. The morning began with a lame comedy act who thought spelling out "Wurlitzer" would be great... More

Have attended a variety of events at the theater and each experience gets better. Going to a movie with a family of 7 can be exhausting but listening to all the exciting comments from others in attendance makes going to this venue extra special. Everyone is always in awe of the decor and old furnishings. Movies are $1.99 and seems... More
