lots of interest here. Historical trails and markers. Interesting sites, amazing architecture. Fun foodie places, great beer joints, museums, etc. Lots of things happening, and things to see and do.

We spent the night in Shock Slip at the fabulous Berkeley Hotel. Hoping to get a nice dinner and window shop we took a walk around, but the area at night is very empty and a little creepy! Restaurants were mostly empty and everything else was closed. Busiest restaurant was Buffalo Wild Wings (sad commentary!) Just past BWW there was... More

The waterfront area is known as Shockoe, from an Indian word. Slip is associated with this area because the boats came here. It has a lot of buildings with architecture to be admired and a lot of history.

Start of the Richmond Renaissance, now one of many older areas which have undergone re-hab. More in Process. Shops, restaurants, residences, galleries... etc. etc. Fun to walk through.

If you're expecting scenery like San Antonio's Riverwalk, forget it. This is a neighborhood with some cobblestone streets and charming old buildings with restaurants that cater to the Financial District next door. But the canal area itself is not very scenic.

The tobacco... More

The area was interesting with some art in the area. By the canal we passed an old building with painting on the wall that was fun. Then at the end by the canal there were several interesting sculptures like old school desks and wooden chair stacked artistically on each other. The cobblestone streets were amazing. There were several restaurants in... More
