About
Bran Castle is one of the most famous landmarks in Transylvania, and is known as the home of Count Dracula. The 14th-century hillside castle and fortress, however, actually houses a collection of furniture and artworks that once belonged to Marie, Romania’s last queen. Tour the eerie castle—including the infamous torture room—and decide for yourself what's fact or fiction. Located about 120 miles away from Bucharest, the castle and Transylvania are a great day trip from the capital, especially for lovers of medieval history and vampires. While you're there, don’t forget to get a few spooky souvenirs from the gift shops at the castle's entrance. – Tripadvisor

Go early to avoid the crowds!
Go early to avoid the crowds! We arrived between 10am and 11am and walked straight in with no queues. The castle is amazing. It’s quite touristy inside with lots of information on Dracula/ghosts/werewolves etc which I really enjoyed but appreciate it’s not for everyone. For the price, if you can get there early it’s worth the visit.

    We expected more
Nice castle but honestly we expected more. A suggestive day with the castle surrounded by snow which contributed to making the atmosphere enchanting but, as already mentioned, we expected more. There were few references to the most famous count in Romanian history, expectations were very high in reality the castle was not huge and I don't know if it was worth the 2 and a half hours of travel to reach it by taxi. If you are in Bucharest it is not easy to reach it without a guided tour, we did it by taxi. Perhaps the best thing was the food at the street food stalls outside the castle.

More of a historical site rather than Draculas caste. Amazing views. Worth the visit.
Me and my mum flew all the way to Romania from England to see this castle. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years. Dracula/brans castle was definitely more of a historical monument rather than a creepy, vampire castle. There’s loads to do, if you want to pay a little extra on top of the fee for the castle. Which was very reasonable. There’s a torture chamber, which shows all the old mediaeval devices used. There’s a lift that takes you down an old well which has been developed into a tourist site. The rest of the castle is all very historical and factual, par the few rooms there is about the supernatural and Dracula. There is also a souvenir market outside before you go into the castle which is great. In between the indoor market there is also a scare maze this is another thing you’ll need to pay extra for along with the torture chamber and the well lift. The castle is located in bran village and once you’re at the top of the castle or even at the steps leading up the view is breathtaking. You will NOT be disappointed. My only problem with the castle was the amount of people in there. The majority of the hallways are very narrow and they let lots of people into the castle therefore it’s pretty over crowded. You’ll have to wait behind people to get into different rooms and go up the stairs. There were also lots of little children running about and screaming which was distracting when I was trying to read or even just talk or walk. However, this is not a reason to not visit the castle. It’s an amazing, beautiful, historical site and definitely something people should see in their lifetime.

    Ok if you like Dracula
A little bit underwhelming but if you are into Dracula at least you can say you have been. The castle is quite a walk from the coach drop off points , long ques to get in and really not worth it when you can take lots of photos fro outside. The multiple market stalls in the courtyard in the town are very interesting with all manner of souvenirs from a machete to a bears head !! There are lots of things to choose from, cashmere scarves were particularly nice as were the t shirts and so much cheaper than the shops in Bucharest. There are plenty of restaurants offering delicious food .

    Rather Disappointed
I was rather disappointed. It's so especially I visited here after the Peles Castle and made comparison inevitably. There are 3 aspects of my disappointment: 1) the vampire story and vibe are only fictional and marketing skills, originated from the Irish author's Gothic horror novel Dracula; 2) rather touristy with loads of souvenir and snack stalls (don't buy at the castle's official souvenir shop which is much mire expensive than these stalls); and 3) I was attracted to the postcard picture of the outlook of the castle. But during my visit, I realised there's no accessible place from where visitors can take the same angle and picture. I could only see the grey facade. Those iconic pictures are only done by drone I suppose. It's one of the spots of my one-day tour from Bucharest. There's no ticket counter but just several machines, cash 70 leu or credit card acceptable. Our tour guide left all the guests to wander on their own which is fine and appropriate At the end, I only wanted to quickly go through the interior of the castle and get back to the coach.

Nice but there is better out there
The castle is cute but the entrance is mangy... book online and save a few € BUT you have to get PAPER tickets before arriving (200m before). There isn't even a shadow of Dracula... a bit of atmosphere given the costs would be appreciated... Missed time tunnel by mistake (ONLY negative reviews) and also expensive. Idrm for the torture room...cost separately....the usual things....views and magazines, no point in paying the extra

    Only the outside is beautiful!
As soon as I arrived I really appreciated the village with typical products and the exterior of the magnificent castle also surrounded by a large garden. Unfortunately once I entered the castle I was very disappointed. Perhaps expectations were high, but I found it to be a bare building.

    A waste of money
So, first of all this is not Draculas castle at all, which we knew, and was emphasised every 5 minutes by the tour guide. Vlad Tepes who was Vlad the impaler is apparently buried on some small island miles away. I personally would save your money, it was crap. If you struggle walking avoid completely as it is a steep climb and then narrow steep steps everywhere. We paid extra for the Dungeon and torture chamber. What a waste of time, the toture chamber was just a collection of items thrown together with no apparent thought. The dungeon is literally the tunnel out of the castle. The town is like some 1 horse town in the middle of nowhere, the trinket stalls sell crap made in china. There is a haunted house attraction on the walk up to the castle which we didn't manage to use as the tour guide gave us very little time to do anything. If this is what you come to Romania for, save your money...

    Very interesting castle
Quite an amazing castle. In reality was a military outpost. It’s purpose of being built or to monitor the border which being the highest point in the area and overlooking the river which is the border. It was a good strategic location very old castle if you’re in the area, you should take a look.

From Bucharest purchase a train ticket through CFR railways website pre booking seats return cost for two adults £45 . So easy to navigate the railway station at Bucharest it shows on the train number and platform it goes from . It’s about 2 hrs 30 mins to Braşov - and a pretty journey on the train down - don’t bother trying to get a bus to bran as they are not that frequent and the bus station which is next to the train station isn’t the easiest to find the right Information . Make sure you download Uber app as this is a godsend - Uber to Bran was £25 takes approximately 40 mins . They are so quick and easy you don’t wait longer than 3 mins for one to arrive . Bran is very much like Salem very quirky with an amazing view of a stunning castle . We were there for the Halloween celebrations and stayed in Casa din Bran hotel which was a short walk away from the castle and shops . A stunning hotel with a Dracula room and breathtaking views of the castle . We paid directly to Bran castle for the Dracula package which was dinner and the party in the tent which was lovely - plus we also paid for the VIP experience in the castle which was incredible - disco and buffet and free bar and free rein of the castle - only 100 people were allowed to do this - and it was the best experience to view the castle without the crowds and privately - danced from 11pm until 4am . Bran has a supermarket - coffee shops and food places and pharmacy so meets all needs - the Halloween weekend had stalls with quirky items for sale . We had a few hours sleep and then Uber back to Braşov for the train journey back … Yes you can do this without a bus trip and guides so if you are planning to do Halloween 2025 it’s so easy to do it and of course there is only 1 road and our so we were told it took the buses 7 hours to get there in that busy Halloween time … we saw from the train the queues of traffic on the roads …. I am writing this as when I was looking there was nothing in here to say how to get there and back with costs etc - so here’s my tips on how to get there xxx

Excellent castle travels you in another era!! Magnificent, on the rock you breathe!! Inside nothing great and today unfortunately one of the tourist attractions that you lose your patience and time!! From the outside the absolute festival with shops with unknown quality food many souvenirs.
Personally I think it's worth it for its awe and external majesty!
Tips:
In no case go with the organized bus tours from Bucharest!! You waste time, patience many hours on the bus because the roads are narrow and there's incredible traffic.
You take the morning train from Bucharest about 23 -25€ with return B position (the A is almost the same and more expensive) late in the evening 2,5 hours the journey through the woods and nature ! Once you arrive at the station of Brașov Bazaar with taxi to go - come to the castle about 60€ (we 4 people we got out 15€ per person). 2 hours to the station and 2 hours to the castle! On return go to the historic center of Brașov 3-4 hours is enough to see the amazing historical
and only center, rest, eat...
Late afternoon taxi (is away on foot) to Brașov railway station and return to Bucharest!! Take the trains that make 2.5 hours of the journey!!

We were staying in the area and decided that a visit shouldn’t be missed. We looked online about buying tickets and were given the impression that entry was by timed ticket and that a number of the slots were sold out (visited on 12th September) so we went ahead and booked our tickets including the optional extras of the torture chamber and the time tunnel. We paid nearly 80 EUR for 2 people. When we arrived there was no checking to ensure you were at the correct time and a large number of people were buying tickets at the gate. It was very crowded inside and some of the rooms are small with a number of very narrow staircases - there were just far too many people. The torture chamber was very interesting and made you wonder how human beings could do such things to each other. The time tunnel was a complete waste of money. When we were leaving I looked at the entry prices and discovered that we had paid more than double the price by buying online rather than at the gate - it was a complete rip off.

Personally. I do not recommend vititing this place for several reasons: essentially, you just walk around up and down staircases as there is not much inside. Not many artifacts and no explanation of the history etc. I also paid extra for a lift which takes you down to the tunnel which is really a laugh: just an ordinary lift going down 30 metres and what they call a tunnel is JUST s short 20 metres or so tunnel showing some panels. Nothing more. Save your money and time and go to Pelisor castle instrad!!

Overpriced! Very average compared to the myth it has been created! We went on 10/31, which was a disaster due to Halloween and school holidays! We waited 2 hours in line, we paid 190 lei for two people and inside this line continued, you couldn't leave or get out faster or explore the rooms since it was full of people. Wasted day! The bazaar under the castle was worth more than the castle!

The castle is fascinating but going there in August there were definitely too many crowds, which ruined the experience. Unfortunately they do not manage limited entry; as a result we were in queues the whole time of the visit (along the obligatory route), sometimes stopped, after having queued to buy tickets and another queue (the slowest) to enter the castle! The small park under the castle is more relaxing, from which you can take beautiful photos, included in the same entrance ticket.
I recommend going outside the tourist periods, otherwise many other castles in Transylvania are preferable, and the beautiful Saxon villages with fortified churches (similar to castles), which can be visited in complete tranquility.

How disgusting! Unfortunately, the comparison with the beautiful Peles Castle visited shortly before was merciless. Bran Castle (highly publicized because the story of Dracula is set here) is all a commercial hype: it doesn't have much to say on a historical level, it is private (the heirs have retained ownership) and more expensive, it is made up of narrow passages , rooms with little furniture, many mannequins, artefacts and monitors with closed circuit images to create that atmosphere that the rooms do not offer on their own. As the guide told us, the furniture itself was requisitioned by the Romanian government, so the furnishings are "modern" and of no artistic value, some rooms are almost completely devoid of furniture and only open to slightly prolong the journey. There is very little to photograph (except the splendid panorama) and if it weren't for Dracula it would certainly be among the most anonymous castles on the planet. In hindsight I would have considered not visiting it.

We went here on a day trip and to one other castle.
This castle is the one that inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula.
It is set in some nice grounds and it is from here in front of the lake that you will get the best photos of the castle from, but you will still have to pay to enter to do this.
The queues to enter the castle can be very long depending on the time that you arrive (try and get there first thing).
Also, I cannot emphasis enough that there are a lot of stairs in the castle many of which are narrow and have stone or wooden steps and lots of them do not have handrails.
It was busy when we went and often you found yourself queuing on these stairs and in some cases, people were talking selfies on them too!
So is it worth going in, well it was quite interesting in places but in all honesty, I would rather have just taken my photos outside and not had to queue for so long and tackle all those stairs.
Am thankful that we did not pay extra to go in the dungeon as the people that did pay on our trip said it was crap / tacky and to be perfectly honest, I was glad when we had finished in the castle and could just chill out in the grounds.
Note it is definitely not a good place to go if you have mobility issues or even with small children. Also, it is really just a tourist trap, especially the market stalls on your way to/from the castle. There are much nicer castles i.e. Peles Castle.

The castle and the teritory surrounding it were terribly overcrowed. Inside the castle it was pretty loud and hard to move and try to see something. Line to the castle was 40+ minutes. The inside of the castle was nothing extraordinary ( a typical medieval castle). The torture chamber visit (that you had to pay extra for) is only worth it if you are realy interested in those type of things. The outside of the castle was really pretty, but overall - the visit was not worth it!
(note - we visited on a thursday at around 10-11am, cant imagine the chaos and amounts of people that are there on the weekends!)

It is better to come early in the morning, before the tourist hordes arrive, and buy your ticket in advance on the Internet. The surrounding area is full of tacky shops. Once through the access gate, things improve and the landscape is very pleasant. The visit to the castle is quite well done if you avoid the time tunnel and the instruments of torture, which are devoid of interest. The few rooms devoted to the supernatural are a little kitsch but do not spoil the visit. Sometimes you have to jostle to move forward but the whole thing takes 1h-1h30 at most. We did not regret our visit.
