This extraordinary zoo, one of the oldest in the U.S., underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in the 1980s and is still expanding. Its landscaping replicates the natural habitats of the numerous animals, some of which are endangered species. Four panda bears from China delight the crowds, and groups of gorillas separated by moats do their own share of entertaining.

I have never seen pandas ever eat in zoo. I assumed they were all unhappy in captivity…might be wrong…but I saw 3 of them tear it up at this zoo. Very energetic and doing what pandas do. The rest of the zoo was typical but well kept. The zoo was clean and well staffed. Definitely worth a day and effort.

We had a perfect day with our granddaughter at Zoo Atlanta. The animals were in excellent, natural habitat enclosures. It is very well planned and easy to get around. The staff are friendly and well informed. It is a wonderful place for kids and adults!

Easy to get to either via local bus or free taxi from some Downtown hotels ( and it is free- no catch at all). Well laid out with lots of shade and places to cool off. The zoo is well aware of the difficulties the hot weather can present so their excellent website actually recommends the best way to see... More

For a big-city zoo, this was disappointing, and does not compare favorably with zoos in Chicago, NYC, San Diego, St. Louis. The grounds are very pretty, but the zoo itself could be cleaner. Perhaps it was because it was very warm in late June, but...it was smelly. Not the typical zoo-smelly, more like "this exhibit needed to be cleaned last... More

Atlanta is so glamorous I would expect the zoo to be up to par.I was very disappointed. Not sure if it was bad timing or what but the animals were scarce.

We had a great time at this zoo. Spent all day and the kids never got bored. They loved it. The animals are very well kept and the kiddie rides were fun.

This is by far the best zoo I've been to. The variety is outstanding and the animals are mostly easily visible. Parking is free and ample. Tickets are free for military personnel. There are 2 gift shops and 1 is solely dedicated to pandas! They sell postcards, elongated pennies and quarters, jewelry, clothes, snow globes, etc. There are also many... More
