Mid-May through October, a ranger-led tour of President Martin Van Buren's home, Lindenwald, is conducted through the house. Our young tour guide was obviously interested in his subject and gave us a good, informative tour about Van Buren, his life and career, his presidency, and his last home. Not everything can be told in a tour, but enough knowledge was... More

We enjoyed the tour of the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and interesting and took us through almost every room in the house. The guide also included helpful information on Van Buren's political career. The house was well preserved and well furnished. In addition, both the house and the grounds were well maintained.... Beautiful only home that Van Buren ever owned, with many many original items. Very immaculately maintained. And, if you're lucky, you'll get Andrew as a guide. He was knowledgeable, articulate, and entertaining!

We stopped by the Martin Van Buren National Historical Site on a whim. The National Park Service always does a great job presenting each attraction. The Visitor's Center was small but informative. The home is a hundred yards or so from the Visitor's Center. I had a sprained foot and encouraged my wife to go on the guided tour while... More

The Lindenwald estate of Martin van Buren is a little off the beaten track but worthwhile a visit. While van Buren may be considered one of the lesser presidents he led an interesting life in and out of public office which comes into focus by the guide's commentary and the interior appointments of the house. Unfortunately there is a 'No... More

I recently visited the Martin Van Buren National Historic site in Kinderhook, New York. It was a beautiful day for my visit. Kinderhook is about 2 hours away from my home in Connecticut. I decided to visit because I am a history buff and I knew very little about this President. Van Buren was the 8th President of the United... More

My wife and I visited on 9/11 at noon. It was a hot humid day. There is no humidity control or air conditioning in the mansion. It is now 5 years w/o A/C according to our guide. The tour was poor in my estimation because too little time was spent on discussion about the building. There was too much discussion... More

learned about the 8th president that I am sure I learned years ago is school. A very little known president who was instrumental in the birth of the democratic party. A must stop for any historian of America. The house tour is of a home he purchased years latter but he was a local form Kinderhook NY

Our guide, John, did a very good job giving our group a lot of interesting info about both Van Buren and the house. The fact that there is so many authentic pieces still in the house makes you appreciate the National Park Service efforts even more.

Though we have lived in the Albany are all our lives, we had never taken advantage of this National Park in our back yard. Being recently retired and having a beautiful August day for a short drive to Kinderhook, we set out. We are so glad we did. The tour was extremely interesting and full of historic facts about this... More
