We were especially impressed with the detailed history of the Revolutionary War (it is in Concord, after all). There is a room that shows the events unfolding on a live map, hour by hour, with great details. This is where you will see one of the lanterns Paul Revere used as well as quite a few references to literary writers of the 19th century. This museum was so interesting, we rearranged our schedule so we could walk through all the galleries.

I came here because of the Mass Audubon exhibition since their museum is currently closed. I came for the bird art, but really enjoyed all the other exhibits as well! The local history was really fascinating as someone who knew nothing coming in. I appreciated that they included important local figures from other genders and ethnicities, a welcome take that I did not expect in a museum that could have just as easily kept their exhibits about the handful of white men who get written about in history books. Also, weird compliment, but I thought their map was very well done and easy to follow, more so than some other larger museums I have visited. Overall, this small museum was a true delight to find.

This small museum is packed with significant historical items. One of the lanterns from the Old North Church is there. The whole of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s library was moved there. It has a great display of items and information from the local area.

The highlight of the museum for us was the minute by minute virtual map of the shot heard round the world starting the Revolutionary War. We viewed it three times! Seeing the actual lantern from the Old North Church made history come alive.
A plus was all the other local Concord history.

This is not a huge museum, but is well worth the time. The interactive map showing the movement of British troops leading up to the battle of Concord is worth the price of admission just by itself. Very interesting with a number of fine exhibits.

Right across the street from Emerson's home "Bush"; ample off street parking. The museum is a manageable size with very nice pieces. Emerson's study has been moved from his house to the museum and is perfectly replicated here. Upstairs in the Revolutionary War section, there is a marvelous, full-wall diorama that lights up minute by minute to show Paul Revere's ride, the movement of the British troops, and the steady amassing of the Patriots until they had the British surrounded on their retreat to Boston - fascinating!

This small museum is not to be missed. Even if in the area only for revolutionary war sites. The electronic display on 2nd floor is one of the best telling of the battles I have seen and in less than 10 minutes. Better than anything at NPS. Plus you get so much more re Emerson, Thoreau, Alcott.

What an amazing museum! While we were waiting for our tour of the Emerson House (right across the street), we stumbled into this museum. We wished we spent more time at this museum. It is full of amazing actual artifacts, such as Thoreau’s writing desk, the lock from the cell where Thoreau spent a night in prison, and the complete study from Emerson’s house. It was amazing to stand in front of these actual items. In addition, the front desk staff and staff located in each room are friendly, welcoming of questions, and very willing to share their extensive knowledge. This is an excellent museum to visit!

Wow we were lucky as we made it before it closed for renovation! This was a highlight of our trip to Maine as we drove to Concord to see several historical attractions. So many historical facts we didn't know or remember. The timeline on the state on the first day of what became the Revolutionary War made it REAL. Also, had no idea the movers and shakers of society pre Civil War were Abolitionists. Just a must for anyone interested in American history!

There was some refurbishment going on when I visited, a few rooms were cordoned off, moreover a section was closed off for a school visit. I barely saw anything. Paul Revere's lantern and a couple of collections of pretty random paintings. To give you an idea, one room was dedicated to a collection of copies of old masters, painted in China in the 19th/20th century. Very odd and very pointless and nothing to do with Concord. Avoid!
