About
The Verde Valley Archaeology Center and Museum is the only facility in the Sedona and Verde Valley area that presents the history of the ancestral Hopi and Yavapai-Apache Nation. The museum presents a variety of exhibits on family life in the 11th through 14th Centuries. Special exhibits include meteorites on loan from Arizona State University Center for Meteorite Studies that were found in or near Sinagua dwellings. There is also a Paul Dyck Art Retrospective exhibit of this local artist who lived among the Plains Indians.

Visiting the Verde Valley Archaeology Center in Camp Verde AZ is definitely worth your time. Children (and adults) will love discovering ancient artifacts in the. archaeology sand box in a cozy room full of visual and hands on opportunities. There is something for every age and interest around every corner pertaining to "the ancient ones" of the Verde Valley. If you go to the other national monuments in the area, be sure to start or finish you exploration with this educational and delightful museum.

Our Archaeology group from Colorado visited the Verde Valley Archaeology center last week and was given a wonderful tour of the museum. Richard was a wealth of information and a great presenter. I have been a member for several years and love the new Location and the great exhibits. The museum does a great job of representing the prehistory of the Verde Valley.

A hidden gem away from the crowds of Sedona. The Center just moved into a new expanded facility. If you want to learn about the early inhabitants of the Southwest this is a must see attraction. There is even an authentic garden walk that can be added to the visit to the Center. CampVerde is just off I17 between Phoenix and Sedona so the Center is easily accessible on your way to Sedona or Flagstaff.

Visiting the Verde Valley Archeology Center is a must do when in the area. The exhibits provide greater insight to the peoples of the Verde Valley. The Center is in a new building with many more exhibits and art. There is a new interactive children's area. It should not be missed.

It is a nice short walk to the cliff dwelling but you are probably 60 to 70 yards away from the cliff plus the dwelling is elevated another25 yards up. There are a number of other dwelling sites within driving distance that are much more "user friendly" especially for children who like the experience up close and personal. We enjoyed the Archaelogical Center as part of our full day visit to Camp Verde but I won't make a separate out of the way trip to this cliff dwelling if that is the only purpose of your visit to this small town.

Wonderful retrospective of the artist Paul Dyke, memorabilia and some of his paintings.
In addition, they have a collection of meteorite fragments from the one that created Meteor Crater. Current displays site items left behind by the Sinagua culture, who lived in the valley between 600CE and 1400CE.
There is a room for younger visitors planned that they'll be able to experience digging for artifacts.

If you are planning to visit any or most of many Indian ruins in the Verde Valley, this new museum would be an excellent first stop to get you oriented. The time-line chart and short video about the area's archelogoical history were very helpful. The various exhibits have text that is short enough to keep your interest, but sufficient to give you a good picture. The Museum also has a very balanced perspective (e.g., white people aren't always the "good guys"). The museum sponsors programs and events, so it would be worth it to check their calendar before you go to time things for programs that interest you. (Also, If you're a cemetery fan like me, the town cemetery is worth a visit and we recognized family names that were also featured in the museum. Not a pretty cemetery but stones back to the late 1800s. Southeast of town, and there is a historic church building there as well.)

Nice polite welcome, but there is really not much here. Good for 5 minutes. Attendant said someday will get bigger. Lets hope so.

Thanks Jim. We are a specialized museum on archaeology, so if that's "not your thing" I guess it would be a quick walk through. Hopefully you'll come back when we have our new building in a few years.

We didn't expect too much when we entered this little museum but were we surprised...the docent was extremely knowledgable about the history of the verde valley, taking time to explain the cultures which had inhabited the area...many beautiful artifacts..well worth taking the time to enjoy this fascinating cultural center...also a great selection of tourist information is available

A small museum that has an amazing collection of artefacts not found in larger institutions. The Paul Dyck Rockshelter Exhibit has a collection of perishable materials that had been preserved in the dry midden deposits inside the rock shelter, and professionally excavated in the 1960s. They have excellent docents in the museum and you should find one to explain the exhibits as they add much more detail to what is on display. Small gift shop on site.
