This being our second visit we were fortunate to have absolutely beautiful fall weather and clear blue sky. I mention this as a the first attempt we arrived in compact fog and left five hours later with still so much fog that the monument was completely invisible from the viewpoint. Well, this time we were lucky, arriving in the afternoon... More

I've always wanted to go to Mount Rushmore but never had a reason to really venture to South Dakota. We were in Sioux Falls for a cross country race and decided to detour to the other side of the state... it was well worth it. I was amazed at how beautiful South Dakota is!!! We arrived late in the evening... More

Went to Mt. Rushmore expecting be underwhelmed, but I was very impressed with the spectacular carving and the all of the surrounding facilities. Very nice visitors center, shops and snack bar-restaurant. Nice restrooms! Our visit was in late October on a beautiful day with no crowds.

If you enjoy seeing sites related to different parts of this country, go. I first went at night and enjoyed that view. The lights are really bright so it takes away some of the nuances you will see by natural light but still fun. If you go a little later in the evening, there is no charge for parking. I... More

Finally went to see this remarkable memorial. We were so excited to see it and upon arriving we found out we could not take our 10 pound puppy with us, she had to sit in a hot car while we hurried.

A wonderful national park. We went to the evening event, which included a presenter with history on the monument and a lighting ceremony. It was so patriotic with the crowd singing the National Anthem and hearing Patriotic music. My kids loved the hike under the Monument and the views from the trail. The history center included a video presentation as... More

Mount Rushmore was exactly as I imagined it would be. A massive larger than life sculpture depicting the faces of four U.S. presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, was carved into the rock of a tall mountain. It took nearly 400 men (mostly miners) to carve the mountain and considerable amounts of dynamite over a span... More

If you have never been to Mount Rushmore I would highly recommend it. Completely breath-taking to see in person, pictures do not do it justice. The memorial has every piece of information on the creation of the monument and goes into full detailed stories about events that happened at the monument. I would also highly recommend bringing a pair of... More

This was definitely the best family trip ever!!!! It was so amazing to see in real life as opposed to a picture. It was educational for our kids and fun for us to teach them about the different presidents. The food was AMAZING. The ice cream was expensive and worth every penny!!!!!
