Magnificent and awesome

This is one of the best designed, informational, awe-inspiring memorial in America. Every display is perfectly created to enhance the sculpture itself. You can spend hours if you visit each display. The evening lighting ceremony is worth the time also. Entry is $10 ($5 for over 62) and National Park passes are not accepted, but the fee allows 7 days entry.

A must see
Oct 2021 • Couples
An amazing site. Be sure to wear walking shoes if you want a closer look at the mountain. Also be prepared for lots of steps down and up. Plan for a least a two hour stay or more.

Well worth the drive and you feel very patriotic when you get there. Loved it!

This was a bucket list visit for my wife. I did not have a burning desire to visit but did not mind going. Well… once there I was awestruck by the monument and just being there made me feel very patriotic. The walk around the path to get to the base of the monument is not an easy one. There are a lot of steps so be prepared for that. It is worth it though as the closer view is very impressive. Don’t skip the visitor center with all of this history on how the monument was made. Very interesting.

Must see for everyone
Aug 2021 • Family
This is a must see for all Americans! It is more than just the monument that you can see from various parts of the area. We listened to a park ranger talk that was more than worth the $10 for parking. I highly recommend taking the time to visit and appreciate everything that went into creating it. It will also give you a great appreciation for our country.

Worth the stop
Aug 2021
We went and paid the $10 to park so we did not have as long of a walk since a member in our family has difficulty walking distance. There are several handicap parking spots and a ramp but it is still a little bit of a walk. There are places to sit (wall and benches later) along the way if needed. It is a beautiful site and one that is worth seeing at least once! My husband and I stopped here over 40 yrs ago as newlyweds and the area around it has changed some since that time but the rock formation is still just as impressive. How much time you spend here depends on your day and what you want to do.

Good free view at pullout don’t pay to park
Oct 2021 • Friends
I would highly suggest not paying to park and just go to the pullout past the park entrance to parking because it’s $10 per vehicle - no parks pass accepted. You pay at a kiosk. The view from pullout area is less crowded and you see more in my opinion-including other rock formations.

A must see for Americans!
Sep 2021
Be sure to attend the evening presentation for an informative video, the lighting of the faces on the mountain and a special salute to our military including lowering & folding the flag. It is inspiring. The last presentation of the season is on Sept. 30th, and resumes in Spring.

Entering national monument not needed
Aug 2021
There are many spots all around the entire area to stop and take a pic to fully see the view of Mt Rushmore. Yes an American moment and one to stop for, but it is over quick. Paying to get into the National Park is not worth it. On our time there we drove by many varying spots and have pics.

Very special
Oct 2021
We were there on a beautiful Oct. sunny day with temperature in the 70's. Do your research on the weather for the next week the area was under a Winter Storm Warniing advisory. Be sure and do the Presidential 1 mile easy walk to get different views. If your a senior the $10 parking is only $5. When you leave take the highway 244 to the east and there is a turnoff where you can stop and get a profile picture of Washington.

Griswold Moment
Oct 2021
If you remember that iconic scene in “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” where the Griswolds were at the Grand Canyon and they stopped to look for about three seconds, then Clark says, “Let’s go,” then you’ve seen the perfect descriptor of a stop at Mount Rushmore.

I’m VERY happy I stopped and saw Mount Rushmore. It’s so “America.” And that BEAUTIFUL blue sky behind the sculpture in the mountain is breathtaking.

But, truth be told, this is a US government tourist trap. About the only thing at Mount Rushmore is a $10 parking lot and gift shops. You can easily see the mountain away from the parking area (there’s even a pull-off on the side of the road offering a fantastic view of the profile of Washington).

Being that this was my first trip ever to South Dakota I “had” to see Mount Rushmore. I’m glad I did.

But, truth be told, it IS nothing more than a Griswold moment.
